Key Takeaways

  • Victory can make careful people careless, leading to rushed decisions made without seeking God first.
  • When making significant life choices, Israel's mistake with the Gibeonites reminds us to always check with the mouth of the Lord rather than just relying on surface-level appearances.
  • Even when you are stuck with the consequences of a bad decision or a rushed agreement, God can still honor integrity and meet you in the middle of your mess.
  • Your word matters; keeping faith with a commitment you regret—even when it proves costly—demonstrates true integrity before God.
  • The place where you failed to ask God can eventually become the very place where God meets you and invites you to ask again.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when you make a bad decision without asking God?

When you rush into major decisions without seeking God's guidance, you often end up stuck living with costly and painful consequences, much like Israel did with the Gibeonites.

Why did Israel make a covenant with the Gibeonites?

Israel's leaders were deceived by the Gibeonites who used clever props, costumes, and a convincing story with dry, crumbly bread to fake a long journey, causing Israel to sign a covenant without consulting God.

Should you break a bad oath or promise if you regret it?

No, biblical integrity dictates keeping your word and honoring your commitments even if the decision was unwise, because God takes oaths made in His name very seriously.

Can God use a bad decision for good?

Yes, even when you create problems through poor choices, God can use those very situations and their resulting consequences to grow you, teach you, and further His kingdom.

You signed it. The loan papers. The job that seemed so perfect at the time. The business partner that seemed so solid. So all in at the time. The house you really couldn't afford, but oh boy, did we want it. And now you really can't afford it. The marriage you rushed into at age twenty. Before you really knew anything about anything, and it cost you nearly everything. The yes you gave. Because to say no felt rude at the time. It looked right at the time. Everybody said it looked right. Wasn't just you, everybody said it looked right. Everybody around you. And now you're stuck. You can't take it back without breaking your word, hurting a bunch of people, or losing everything. So you lie awake in the middle of the night doing the math. How did I not see it? Why didn't I just pray first? Today, Israel gets played. A group of strangers shows up with moldy bread and a convincing story. And Israel's leaders, they sign a binding covenant right on the spot. They check the bread. They check the bread thoroughly. But they never checked with God. And three days later, the truth comes out. And now they have to live with it. All of them. This is true word, faith for life with Dr. Sean. I am Sean. Welcome to everybody listening in live chat. Welcome to everyone listening on playback. Why not?

Share with a friend. It's free. I can't, I don't know. I don't know what the barrier is to doing it, but whatever. So I'm not a religious person. Yesterday, one of my friends was reading me a Bible and he mentioned how God created a word in six days and took the rest in seven days. Okay. Um, I'm sensing maybe your English is not your primary language. Maybe it is. Um, in which case, dang, pretty good. But I want to make sure I'm understanding it. Helping me reading a Bible there, he mentioned how God created a word in six days and took the rest in seven days. Um, maybe clarify it. Maybe uh I might be able to be able to answer that for you. Otherwise, all you have to do is go to True Word Faith for Life. Same, same title as the as the podcast. True WordFaithforLife.com, true WordFaithforLife.com, and go to contact up at the top, and then leave leave me your question. As anyone here can, if you leave me a question or you reach out to me, I absolutely will reach back out to you. As soon as I receive it and I'm able to respond. Yeah, usually very quickly. Hope that helps you. So one word in the chat here. Day 139, the biggest decision you're living with right now. The biggest decision you're living with right now. Did you ask God first? Or did you rush it? I mean, how many of us are here? I don't know. We're grown folk. Good morning, Sean, spelled correctly. I mean, we're all grown folk here. We've been around. We've made some decisions. We've all made decisions. Some of them worked out really well. Right? It just worked out. We didn't really have to do anything big, no big deal. It just worked out. I don't we can all look at at uh at our life and we can we can point to times where oof that was a bad decision. Bad decision. Ay ay ay. And then we can all point to times in our lives where we we made a decision, and and if you're a person of faith, you bathed it in prayer. You said, Okay, I gotta make sure I'm doing the right thing here. I'm gonna make sure I do the right thing.com, contact, and then write out your whole question, take your time, write it out, no rush, no pressure, and I absolutely will answer it in great detail. I promise you, and it'll be easy to understand. You won't be confused at all. And if you have a follow-up question, I'll be happy to answer those. I'm always happy to do that. Kind of live for it. So, I mean, yeah, okay. One word in the chat. I mean, ask? Did you ask God first? Or did you rush it? And if you rushed it, type rush. Which used to be one of my favorite bands when Neil Peer was alive. The new drummer is extraordinary. She's unreal. But Neil, amazing man. No, no. I mean, it's pretty easy, but I can't answer that here because we're doing a broadcast and we're doing a teaching. So it'd be unfair to everybody if I took the time and went back to that. But I'm happy to answer it. But sometimes folks don't actually have real questions, they just want to lead in. And then, you know, tell me Allah is the one true God, and or that who why am I worshiping a sky daddy's super stuff, you know. I don't know. But if you're not that, true wordfaithfullife.com, free of charge, no cost or obligation to you. Click on contact, write out your question. I'm good to go. So word is spreading through Canaan. Jericho is gone. Ae is gone. Joshua 9, verses 1 and 2 say the kings of the land gathered to fight Israel together. Nicole says, When I haven't asked God first, it always consists of problems. My last large decisions have been asking God first. So much easier. Man, oh man. Can I get an amen on that right there? So she would be, Miss Nicole, waking up at four in the morning to watch live. She would be both. Ask and rush. Right? Ask and rush. I've been both. I've done both too. Come on. Come on, you put two words, don't matter. Free of charge. Nobody's going to yell at you. Which did you do? I know which ones I've done, and I know the cost. My family knows the cost. And some people, it's just me and God. Some stuff, me and God know the cost. Type the real one. There's no point in being fake here. Anyway. So Joshua 9, verses 1 and 2 say, the kings of the land gather to fight Israel together. Oof. Seems like we've always been facing it, Israel. Folks have always been trying to destroy Israel, but they can't, and they couldn't, and they won't. God's people, not perfect people, but God's people. And I stand with Israel. By the way, Miss Nancy Flanagan, the whole reason why I'm doing this in the first place, shared a meme on Facebook. And I'm trying to remember how it went, but basically it was something that I talk about all the time. But these upcoming midterm elections here in the United States, people say, that's it. I'm not, I'm done with Trump. He didn't do this, he didn't do that. Like the one thing that he didn't do out of the nine million things that he did do, facing opposition and lawsuits and all this crazy stuff, you know, and different politics, you know, they're not perfect. They're not perfect. You're looking at what kind of world you want to live in. You're not electing homecoming queen here. There are difficult choices. What kind of world do you want to live in? Anyway, so one city chooses a different plan. Gibeon Gibeon. It's about six miles northwest of Jerusalem. It's a large city. Joshua 10, verse 2 says, its men were mighty. Now God's law had already drawn the line. Deuteronomy 20, verses 10 through 15 allowed Israel to make peace with cities far away. But Deuteronomy 7, verse 2 said, No covenant with the nations of the land itself. Gibeon was in the land. So the Gibeonites decided to become a faraway city on purpose. Israel's leaders are fresh off two hard lessons. Jericho taught them God fights for them. Ie taught them what happens when something is hidden. Come on, the hidden thing, just like Ms. Nicole, the hidden thing, the large decision. You don't bring it to God. You don't pray over it. Ms. Colleen and I have a huge decision. We had a huge decision. We've made the decision now, but we, this huge decision. We've had to face huge decisions as it relates to, you know, my being here or not being here. Get the surgery, don't get the surgery. Get the procedure, don't get the procedure. Do the thing, don't do the thing. And the price is massive. And I think you can only take. Yeah, I started to say you can only take the really big stuff to God. You get, but it's the everything stuff, right? There's an old hymn about that. Taking it to God. What a friend we have in Jesus, I think it's called. When something is hidden, there's a massive cost, folks. You'd think they'd ask about everything now. You'd think they would really be curious, but you know, they're in the thick of it. They're living life. That's just reality, folks. I don't know what to tell you. We can't be hard on the people of Israel. It was the ancient Near East. Stuff is tough there. It's a whole new world, whole different way of living. Whole different, I mean, a monotheistic God? Are you kidding me? You got just one? You'd think they'd ask about everything, but you'd think we would ask about everything, knowing what we know. I mean, I'm sitting next to six, seven Bibles, and there's probably 30 Bibles over there, and probably five, ten Bibles over there, and there's one in on the kitchen table, and there's another one in my and then I've got a bazillion of them on my computer. You'd think you'd think we'd consult that. You'd think we would pray, but we don't. Victory has a way of making careful people careless. You see, things have gone really well for me, and my choosing hasn't been bad. I'm doing pretty good. My decisions are rocking. And then that, you know, I don't know if you've ever been skiing, but before I got this bad, I I, you know, many years ago, I like to ski. I like speed. I like speed in every form. Motorcycles, cars, jumping out of airplanes, fast ascent. And skiing was uh exhilarating. But that mountain, when it gets like this, you don't know. You're standing there looking at it, going, well, it doesn't look that steep. And then about half a second after you go over that edge and you point those skis toward the bottom, you're thinking to yourself, I have made a big mistake. Now you skied the other slopes and didn't have a problem. There wasn't anywhere near as steep as this one. Victory has a way of making careful people careless. Verse 4 says they acted with cunning. The Hebrew here is Urmah. Urmah comes from the same root as Genesis 3, verse 1, where the serpent was more crafty than any other beast. The first deception in the land sounds like the first deception in the garden. Urmah. Most of the decisions in your life were made fast, and they were made without asking. Verses four and five. They take worn out sacks and old wineskins, cracked and patched, worn out sandals, worn out clothes, and all their bread is dry and crumbly. Verse 6, we have come from a distant country. So now make a covenant with us. Verse 12, here is our bread. It was still warm when we left home to come to you, but now behold, it's dry and crumbly. It's a good show. Right? You get on the internet. I've I got I threw them out, I think. No, I still got one left. I gotta throw that away. And you'll see them on YouTube, advertise on YouTube. It'll hold the whole library of the Library of Congress. It's blah blah blah, and it's just this and it's just that, and it's only sixty dollars and fifty something dollars, and you know, it's lightning fast and blah blah blah. It's fake. It's fake. They send you a fake thing, it's not real, it's some Chinese junk. Got your money, haha. Try to get it back. It's good props. They're using AI. People aren't real nowadays in AI. The people aren't real, and it's easy to fall for it. Come on, Miss Colleen and I sit there and I pointed out AI. She goes, no way. I said, Yep, AI. Now look, I'm I'm not anti-AI or SI, whatever we're calling it now, but because I've, you know, I'm I compose music and then I don't have an orchestra. So that's what I do. I put it on there and I say, This is what I want, and I'm very specific. Right down to the brand of instrument or the era of instrument and the voice and the notes and all of that. But it's not me. It's not me. Some of them are me singing, but it's not all bad. It's what I'm trying to say. Sometimes it's real. But look, I'm just telling you, it's a good show. And that's what they did here. It looked good. You know, as we age, we become a huge target for scams. Young people, huge target for scams. This over here is a scam. I wish I could reach it without going off camera because then the camera will follow me. Anyway, you don't need to see it, but just don't buy it. Says uh I don't know, bazillion terabytes. I should have known. You know, it's massive. The the expense of storage is massive if it's real. I, you know, my point is this. Look, folks, these people put on a good show up in here in ancient near Near East, and now you judge how long you've been on the road was how warm was your bread still? And their bread's drying crumbly. That means it's been a long time. Come on, is anybody listening? Let me know you're there. I mean, they had props, they had costumes, they had a story. Oh, sometimes the scams, they got a big story. Sometimes the people that are trying to take advantage of us have a story. Sometimes there are people in our lives, they come into our lives. Excuse me, they come into our lives and they have such a story. And our heart feels for that. And then it's very, very costly. Because they aren't who they said they were. And in this case, the props, the costumes, the story, the dry crumbly bread, Israel's leaders, they do what careful people do. They inspect the evidence. Well, let's take a good look. Then verse 14, it's one of the saddest verses in this book. I'm telling you what. So the men took some of their provisions, but did not ask counsel from the Lord. The translations here are shaded a little bit differently. The ESV, English Standard Version, says, did not ask counsel from the Lord. The New American Standard Bible, NESB, 2020, says, did not ask for the counsel of the Lord, but the Hebrew is more physical. It's piadonilo shauru. They did not ask the mouth of the Lord. They handled the bread, maybe even tasted it. Last night I was going to be Mr. Charcuterie. Miss Colleen, say that word, charcuterie. I love to hear that. I do, I love it. That's a big thing now, this charcuterie, you know, thing. When I was growing up, you just said there's some bread and there's some pieces, there's some pieces of cheese, and there's some there's some meats. Right? The old days. Right? It was fun, but now it's charcuterie, some big thing. Well, I was gonna dazzle her with my charcuterie making. Because we don't barely want to eat dinner. I mean. So anyway, and I brought in some cheese, three different kinds, and I was super excited. And every bit of it was bad. Bad gum it, every bit. Looked good on the outside, until you started peeling away the layers and you saw, ooh, that's moldy. But they handled the bread. I wouldn't have tasted the bread last night, but the bread. How many of you have have reached for something that looked good? And then you put it in your mouth, you're like, mm-mm, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Kind of nasty. Wish I wouldn't eat that. Maybe they tasted it. They checked everything with their hands and their mouths, but they never asked the mouth of God. Man, aren't we there an awful lot? We say, I got this. I don't need to consult with you over every dad gum thing. Why? Why do I have to ask? Why do I have to ask? Hey, is this a is this a I don't know. So weird. Folks, I don't know why you come to clearly faith-based prop uh broadcast. It's called raiding. They come in, they're trying to raid your broadcast. So stupid. Childish. Anyway, I didn't ask God. We don't ask God sometimes. Some of the decisions I have made, I didn't ask God because I thought I got it. I got it. Man, I'm doing so good. I'm physically strong. I'm mentally strong. I've got, you know, uh higher than regular intelligence. And well, I got this. I can trust. It's not about that. It's not about being able. It's not having the components to make a good decision. It's about the relationship with God. That's how it's formed when we have a close relationship. And look, it took me a long time. Miss Colleen and I can't figure out how many years we've been together. But we both have made mistakes. We both have made mistakes in the old decision-making part, individually and together. We both have. She would say she hasn't, but she's made fewer bad decisions than me. Let's put it that way. But decisions have costs, they have consequences. Doesn't mean we're paralyzed and in decision when we ask God. We bathe our lives. I bathe this broadcast every morning. Every morning, I pray, God, make this about you and not me. Make it available to everybody. Is anybody listening out there? I don't even know. I could be talking to myself. Which it wouldn't be the first time, let's be honest. I just want you to understand that a conversation with God is it solves a lot of problems, long before they become a problem. Verse 15, Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant with them to let them live, and the leaders of the congregation swore to them. Verse 16, three days later they find out these people live right next door. And they're not good people. The people grumble. But the leaders answer in verse 19, we have sworn to them by the Lord, the God of Israel, and now we may not touch them. So now they can't fight them, they can't kill them. That's integrity. That's what Israel is. It's the it's you know, you see all this stupid stuff, all these bots and all this. You gotta think about why. Why? Why have so many people and institutions and so many things? Why? Thank you very much, Antique Lover 8087. Thank you so much. Welcome. I'm so glad to have you. I love antiques too. I grew up in a house full of antiques. Our house was 150 plus years old, and everything in it was super old. We had some stuff in there that was 200 years old. Wild. We didn't run and jump on anything. That's why I see people run and jump on beds. Grown folk jumping on beds. Good Lord. My mother would come back from the dead, my father would come back from the dead and whack me right one right in the head if I ever jumped on a piece of furniture. Beats all I've ever seen. Anyway, thank you for letting me know you were listening and we're glad to have you. So that's integrity, right? The IDF is super, yeah. I mean, there's no other army in the world that does what they do. By the way, you you hear all this genocide. Well, there's a genocide. It's a genocide. First of all, that word was coined by a Polish man who was victim of the Holocaust. Yeah, World War II came up with this word. By the way, I'm sorry to be noisy man's mowing the grass. Look, what I'm saying is this. People have been trying to kill the Jews thousands of years. And yet, look at what they do. Say, genocide in Gaza, there's a genocide in Gaza, really? Man, they suck at genocides then. Israel sucks at bringing about a genocide. Because believe me, in five minutes, Gaza could be gone. You say, well, it is gone. Look at how it be it is. Really? Well, how come the population in Gaza is higher? How come the population on the West Bank, Judea and Samaria, is higher now than it was before the war? Somebody tell me. Thank you, Miss Susan. So glad to have you listening. Thank you very much. Sometimes it's hard to know, you know. So you think about it, you know, genocide, wiping out a people because of their race and their religion. You're wiping out a people. That's what a genocide is. And they and they were nearly successful in World War II. The Nazis. The actual Nazis, not the ones. Crazy people call other people they don't like, but you're a Nazi. Stupid. Anyway, there's a big whole thing I could go into on that. I've done broadcasts on it, long ones, very detailed ones. You just go to True Word, Faithful Life with Dr. Sean YouTube channel, click on subscribe, click on the little bell for all notifications, click on the thumbs up, and then go through the over 5,000 videos that we've done. Come on, it's free. Used to be a saying I used to hear all the time. It's free. If it's free, it's for me, you know. Free stuff has a cost. I'm just saying. But this, you literally can watch all that stuff for free. You can also go to TruewordfaithforLife.com, click on that, and uh, okay, I appreciate your prayers, antique lover 8087. I appreciate your prayers for God's calling, especially the next 70 hours. Absolutely. I tell you what, send me a message at TrueWordfaithforLife.com. Contact, a little contact up there. Send me a message on that. I'm gonna add you to my prayer list. Okay, we're good. I get all kinds of health notifications. Wow, man. Wow. Anyway, enough of that. Look, the Jews and Israel in particular, they have a lot of integrity. They honor even bad agreements, they make a bad agreement. Miss Nicole says we may create the problem that results in consequences, but God can still use it to grow and teach us to further his kingdom. Amen. Jesus is truth. Amen. So, so that's the thing, Miss Nicole says it, and we've all lived it. Okay, we've made mistakes. I've made mistakes. I'm telling you, I've made bad choices. I don't even call them mistakes. Bad choices. Knew what I was doing, still did it. Stupid, expensive, painful. Been there, done that. Got the t-shirt and it's all torn and holes and doesn't fit anymore. It's all faded. Wasn't worth it. Lemon wasn't worth the squeeze. I'm just telling you. They swore to this oath. They were tricked, but they swore to an oath before God. They swore it in God's name. Man, stop this whole thing. I hear people say it, I hear believers say it. I swear to God. What are you doing? Some of them swear to God and they're they know they're lying. Listen, God takes those seriously. 400 years later, in 2 Samuel 21, King Saul tries to wipe out the Gibeonites. King Saul, he's like, hey, I've had enough of y'all. But God reminds him through a famine on all of Israel for breaking that ancient oath. That's how serious it is. So Gibeon becomes a city of servants. Verse 27 says they cut wood and draw water for the altar of the Lord. Now chapter 10. Five Amorite kings attack Gibeon for making peace with Israel.

Ra rah.

And Gibeon sends a message to Joshua in verse 6 Do not relax your hand from your servants. Relax your hand, here is Rapha. The same word God used in chapter 1, verse 5. I will not leave you. I will not let you drop. Now the people who lied to Joshua are begging, Joshua, don't let us drop. And he doesn't. Covenants have a cost. Verse 9 says, Joshua marched all night from Gilgal. That's an uphill climb of about 20 miles through the dark for people who deceived him and deceived Israel. But Joshua marched all night to rescue the people who lied to him. Why? Because he made a promise, a covenant before God. Verse 8, do not fear them. Then God fights. Verse 11, great stones from heaven more died from hail, from the hail than from the sword. Then verse 12, Son, stand still at Gibeon and moon in the valley of Agelon. Stand still, this is dom, a word that also means be silent. Believers have long debated how God did it. Oh, sure, there's all kinds of debate over it. But verse 14 tells you what matters. There has been no day like it before or since, when the Lord heeded the voice of a man, for the Lord fought for Israel. The decision you're stuck with doesn't have to be the end of the story. Like Miss Nicole said. By the way, if you're listening on any other platform, where you want to go is true word, faith for life with Dr. Sean, S H A W N on YouTube. It's about 4,000. There's a couple there. We have a backup channel. There's about the one you want to join is 4,000. Subscribe. There's no, there's not, you're not gonna be charged a fee. You just click on subscribe, click on the notification for all notifications. Anyway, blah blah blah. It's gotta be said, or YouTube will not show this to anyone. They control the levers. And I like it. But it's the truth. Listen, if you just landed here, you just tuning in, or you've not ever heard this channel before, and there's lots of new people with thousands of people listening, there's bound to be new people. And if you're a person just like me, just like many of the others, I think just like regular people, you made a big decision without asking God. And now the now you're stuck living with it. Listen, I just want you to understand how this looks. I have dear friends, and and they're I actually I had the distinct honor of teaching a Sunday school class that they were in many, many years ago in Tennessee. And I absolutely adore these people. I've adored them for decades. And uh, you know, very successful, super successful people. And they just they bathe everything in prayer, everything. You say, wait a second, this gigantic home, this beautiful, stunning home, this this super success that you have, and yet so humble. Uh and you're taking this to the Lord, yeah. Take it to the Lord in prayer. Sometimes we pray, God, I I you know the decision I'm facing. And and I don't I don't know what to do. Or maybe, or maybe, hey, I think I know what to do, but I don't know if that's right. Or I feel awfully confident. And that confidence making me nervous. That makes me nervous. You bring it to God. And and look, maybe you did make a big decision. And you didn't ask God. You go, why would I do that? He's busy. God's busy with people dealing with real stuff. And you made that decision, now you're stuck living with it. Well, here's what Gibeon teaches. First, don't add a second sin to the first one. Right? First, do no harm. Israel didn't break the bad covenant. They kept they kept their word and God honored it. Listen, men. Women you can listen to. You don't have to cover yours. If you signed it, you rushed into it, or you promised it, God may be asking you to keep faith with it. Not because the decision was wise, but because your word was given. Man, what does your word mean? Your word is strong, your word is your bond, and till there are consequences. Second, I want you to watch what God did with Gibeon. Generations later, the tabernacle stood at Gibeon. 1 Chronicles 16, verse 39 puts it there. And in 1 Kings 3, verse 5, young King Solomon went to Gibeon to worship. And God appeared to him and said, Ask what I shall give you. The city born from the day Israel didn't ask became the place where God said, Ask. Oh, you might want to write that down. I'll wait till you get a pen. Gift for my son and daughter in law. Love it. It's called Alami. Or Lamy. I don't know what's called. Spelled like that. I don't know. Amen. Eric777 T6W says, not people in this day and age. Yeah. I don't know. I I have to approach it with a level of humility that, you know, I have made such stupid decisions. So many times. And there have been times where I didn't honor my word. And there is cost. I want you to think about this. Think about this again. The city born from the day Israel didn't ask. They were tricked. Israel was tricked, straight up tricked. That became the same place where God said ask. God can hold you to a promise you regret and still make it the place he meets you. Miss Nicole said it a while ago. Some of you others have said it a while ago. He can take. He can take that mess. And if we turn it over to him, even in the consequences, he can reveal himself. We just have to ask. God can hold you to a promise. That you regret so deeply. And still make it a place, the place, where he meets you. Here's your step today. And I want you to remember, I I don't I've got to rest my voice and I've got to uh I've got to rest my brain a little bit and my body. As you might imagine, this is this is really a huge undertaking. We're in day 139 of this. I've been doing a podcast for I think four years. And then I have my radio show before that. But my point is this is that, you know, I gotta take a rest for a few days. Um, but I may pop on. So if you're a subscriber uh and you've clicked for all notifications, that little bell, it's just it's it's so unassuming. Click on that little bell and click for all notifications. And uh click on the thumbs up while you're there, don't cost you anything extra. And I I think I'm probably gonna pop on and I'm gonna call. I've written two that I think I think are very appropriate for where where I am and and where you may be in life. And they're very short, I know. 45 minutes in. But if I'm able to do it, I'll do it. It won't be fancy, it's not gonna have all of this. It's gonna be, you know, with my phone. But we'll see. I'm gonna call them Porch Talk. They'll be right here on this channel. If you're a subscriber, you'll you'll see it. I'll give you notification in advance. So before you make, I mean, this is what you can do today, right? We can undo a lot of stuff that we've done. But one thing we can do is not make it worse. So here's your here is your step today. Before you make one decision today, big or small, it doesn't matter. Stop and ask God out loud first. Listen, we gotta practice that. We have to get in the practice of it. Stop and ask God out loud first. One sentence. It's easy. I can hardly sit up. I should have worn that brace today. I was gonna do it, but I didn't want to I didn't want to wake up Miss Colleen because that thing's got so much um velcro, the velcro on it's this thick and this long. And so if you don't get it right that first time, when you pull it off to redo it, and it has this big bar that comes up here, it's ugly looking, and I hate doing it, but um as some of you know, I have a brain and spinal cord injury, and sometimes I can't hold myself up, and it has been progressing all week to the point where I can barely hold myself up now. So, anyway, we're working on all that. Anyway, as an aside, so if you see me shrinking, that's why I've zoomed in. I don't normally zoom in because you don't want to see this face closer, but anyway, so here's it here's how it looks. One decision today, big or small. Really, if it's a small decision, even better. So much better. But I want you to ask God out loud first before you make the decision. One sentence. I'm not saying some big long diatribe. I'm not saying some big dissertation to God, and you and use your normal language, be respectful, but your normal language, it could look like this: God, Lord, Hashem, Adonai. What do you say? Then wait one full minute in silence. Oh, we hate silence in this society. YouTube hates it. You have 2.1 seconds from when the uh when the broadcast starts. And if people aren't intrigued, within 2.1 seconds, they click off. Reality. Reality. People hate silence, they hate something other than what's feeding them immediately. And it's free, right? Go for one to what there's no commitment, there's no barrier to entry. All you need is the internet. Look, here's how it looks. Lord, what do you say? You got this decision to make. What do you say? Then wait one full minute in silence. Before you answer anyone, before you address anyone, any of it. And and for the decision that you're that you're already stuck with, I have some advice for you. Write down one way you'll keep faith with it this week. I've made the decision. It's here. I know that it's not a good decision. I know that it wasn't the proper decision. Amen, Eric. Eric 777 says, I never make oaths or swear on anything as Christ said not to. Amen. I take that very seriously, but I do make oaths with people because if we make a covenant with someone, in a lot of my prior teachings, I use the word covenant and I teach about it. What does it mean? What's the difference between covenant and promise and all that? And we do make covenants with people. Marriage is a covenant. We make a covenant to our children when we have children. Make a covenant. Here's what I want you to do. Here's what I want you to do. Oh God. You know there's a decision you're stuck with, and you're like, oh, why did I do that? Why did I do that? Write down one way you'll keep faith with it this week. It's exactly the way Joshua marched for Gibeon. Put it where you'll see it tomorrow. Look, invest in some post-it notes. I don't know. Go to the dollar store. Neither of which Post-it notes is a brand, just like Gleenex is a brand. And Dollar Store is a brand, and neither of them pay me anything. I'm just saying, get do what you got to do and put it, write it out and put it where you'll see it tomorrow morning. So that tomorrow morning you wake up and you go, Oh, okay, I got to remember this. I got to do this. Joshua kept covenant with people who came to him in disguise. They were tricking him and the whole nation of Israel. And here's the truth about every one of us. This is real. We came to God the way the Gibeonites came to Israel. Mixed motives, patched up stories, trying to look like we're farther, we're from farther away than we were. If we're honest with ourselves, and then you know, there's a certain level that has to be reached subconsciously, but you know, our our intentions, we're placing our faith in Christ. I'm gonna give you an opportunity to do that here in just a couple of minutes. And and and sometimes when we come to Christ, you know, yeah, yeah, we will we believe he's the risen Son of God. We believe that that he was he was tortured and murdered, and he went, he went willingly to the cross, and then he was he was murdered in front of a whole audience of people, as history records it. And he was put dead into a borrowed grave. And three days later, just as he as was prophesied for the Messiah, he rose again. And he did that to bear our sins. And we come to him and we say, Well, I want forgiveness from our sins, but but to some degree, some in the back of our head say, Yeah, but I also don't want to burn in hell if there's an actual hell. I don't want to burn in it. And believe me, there is an actual hell. So that is in the back of your head. It's this, it's this mixed motive, right? Sometimes we do things in our enlightened self-interest, right? We we we've learned something. Hey, I need to do this. Just like exercise and weight-resistant exercise as you get older. You gotta preserve your muscle mass. Right? Okay, maybe you're I know this lady, she's 74 years old, and she never worked out a day in her life. Then when she was 74 years old, she went to the senior center and she was a little bit feeble. And she went to the senior center and they were doing this exercise thing, and she was like, What in the world? And they had little hand bar uh dumbbells, very light. And she said, Well, I'm here, I might as well do it. And so she did it. She was like, Cool, I like how that feels. Then two days later, she went to, I'm not gonna say the name of the store all as we go, but and got her some two-pound weights. And then a week later, she went and got her some five-pound weights, and she was like, Oh, this is too late. She joined the gym, she went to a gym, and now at 76 years old, she was 74 when she started this never exercised day in her life, 77, 76 years old. At 76 years old now, she's a stud. She says, I wish I would have known this. I wish I would have done this, right? She could have just concluded, well, it's it's too far along. I'm too old. I'm 74. You can always start somewhere. Better late than never. Sometimes we come. We come to God. We have all kinds of subconscious things going on in our head. Here's the thing, Yeshua kept covenant with us anyway. Romans 5, verse 8. God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Joshua marched all night to save the very people that lied to him. Yeshua walked all the way to the cross for people who betrayed him. And the sun went dark at noon. 2 Timothy 2, verse 13. If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself. He doesn't break promises. Yeshua, Jesus, doesn't break promises. Hashem Adonai Aloim, Yehovah, doesn't break his promises, because he can't deny himself. And he's still saying what he said at Gibeon. John 16, verse 24, ask and you will receive that your joy may be full. I never deserved his word to be kept for me. Believe me, I don't deserve it. And he never lets go of the ones who call his name. I have for you today a challenge and a choice. You can keep beating yourself up for the decision you cannot undo. Or you can keep your word, ask God first from now on, and let him turn your gibbeon into a place where he meets you. So here's the choice in front of you. Will you ask first today? I want you to pray with me, but I want you to remember prayer isn't asking for an easy journey, it's asking for a strong back. Heavenly Father, we've signed things we never brought to you. We've checked the bread and we never asked your mouth, what you want for us. Some of us are living with it right now, the consequences of it, and some are very, very heavy. And we're lying awake and we're doing the math. I ask that you forgive us for rushing. I ask that you teach us to stop, pause, and ask before we answer anyone. I ask you to give us the integrity to keep our word when it costs us. I ask that you give us strength to march all night for the people we're bound to. Whether we like them or not. And God, take the decision we regret most and make it a place, like Miss Nicole said, where you meet us and say, Ask. Thank you for keeping covenant with us. When we came to you in disguise, came to you with all this sin and all these hurts and habits and hang-ups, and all these ulterior motives. Thank you for keeping your covenant with us. I pray this in the name of your son, Geshua Hamashiach, our Savior, our Redeemer, and our King. Oh, the faithful one. Amen. Listen, maybe, maybe you've made every big decision in your life without asking God, including this one. What do you do with Him? What to do with Him? You can ask Him right now. You can ask Him, What do I do here? He's already said yes to you. I want you to pray this with me right now. Do not, do not put this off one more second. I don't care if you're listening live or on playback, if you've never placed your faith in Christ, don't wait another second. I want you to pray this with me. Yeshua, I need you. I believe you died and you rose from the grave. I surrender my life to you today. I ask for forgiveness for my sins, my hurts, my habits, my hangups. I ask that you forgive me. Fill me. Lead me. I'm yours. In your name. Amen. Come on. All of heaven is rejoicing because you just prayed that prayer from your heart and meant it. You don't have to understand everything else. No, no. You just have to understand that. We'll help you with the everything else part. You got a free place to come. All right, you can have your cup of coffee. Next week we'll be an anomaly, just because I need to rest my body and my brain. And uh just for a few days. But normally we're here. And listen, 5,000 videos? Come on, you could start the day, and by the time I come back on this mic, you will have not even listened to a tenth of it. Go back and listen. The catalog is huge. Go to truewordfaithforlife.com. Let us know. You've made the best decision of your life, of your eternity. And listen, if you've done it here, you've done it now, put it in the comments below. Type the word asked. A-S-K-E-D. Type that in the chat or the comments. We'd like to rejoice with you. Then I want you to tell one believer this week, and listen, it doesn't matter how they receive it, and you don't have to tell them some big diatribe. Just tell them, hey, I just wanted you to know, I know you're a believer, and I want you to know that I place my faith in Christ. I gave my life to him. They may not receive it well. Because they're stuck in what they don't understand grace, even though they received at one time grace, but they've seen how maybe you've lived your life and the things you've done, things you've said. They know you still got salty language. They know, hey man, I'm a sailor. I was in the Navy and post-Navy service and a police officer and all that stuff. I am I've got dents in my halo big. I got big dents way deeper than salty language. And your family or whoever you chose to tell, they know the you. And sometimes family and close friends are the very ones that will oppose us the most. Just tell them. Don't get into an argument with them. Just tell them. Say, hey, you know what? Thanks for listening. I just, when the preacher guy on TV or on that thing said, Hey, uh I want you to place your faith in Christ if you believe in him. And I did, and I and I want you to tell somebody, and your face popped into my head the first one. I just wanted you to know. Thanks for listening, and then go on. And then go to true wordfaithforlife.com. Tell me, contact. I'm telling you, people do it all day, every day, and I would absolutely love to be with you on that. Hello from Uganda. Thank you for listening. We are praying for your country. Asking God to protect the Christians in Nigeria and Uganda and so many other places in that area of the world. Listen, people are giving their lives. Are you a Christian? Or are you Muslim? And they say, I am a Christian. And they are tortured and murdered. Today, in this world, today, some people are giving their lives. You're not having to give your life for it. What they do today, they checked the bread and forgot to ask God. God helped them to the word, absolutely. But then he fought for them anyway. The lesson here is ask first. Keep your word. Speaking of ask, by the way, just because I'm going to be resting my voice and resting my spine a little bit, and just in my brain, um, you can still reach out to me. I'm, you know, and I'm like I say, I'll probably be. I'll probably be popping on and just be basic, super basic. But here's what I want you to do. You can ask anyway. You can touch base with me anyway. If you don't have my personal contact, use the true word faith for life with doc true wordfaithforlife.com. Contact, and I'm telling you, I will reach out to you. We do it all day, every day. And those of you listening can attest to that. But as the decisions, ask first. Keep your word, ask God. Then watch Him turn your Gibeon into holy ground. The next time we gather, no matter what day, well, we'll do the little porch talks maybe. But in lieu of that, or after that, we're gonna we're gonna do the Sunday summation and deepening. And um we're gonna we're gonna walk back through this whole week. You're not gonna miss out on that. I'm still gonna do the blog and the study guide and all of that. That'll be posted on Saturday or maybe before, no matter what. Tomorrow's Saturday. And you'll have all those resources. We're gonna we're gonna summarize from the scarlet cord to the sun standing still. And and when we do it, we're gonna go deeper than any morning had time for or room for. I want you to send this episode to somebody stuck with the decision they can't undo. Just send them the link. This one. Now I'm gonna pray a prayer of blessing over you. I don't want you to think, I think I'm anybody special. Believe you me. I know me, and if you know me, you know I am absolutely not. However, in his grace, his mercy, and his forgiveness, because I've laid it all at the foot of the cross, and I do so daily. I want to pray this blessing over you. And I want you to receive it in Leshon Hakadesh, which is Hebrew for Hebrew, the language of God. Are you ready? Take a deep breath. Come on. Here we go. Are you ready? I'll translate it for you. Don't panic. I'll translate it for you. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Until we meet again, thank you, Miss Nicole, for your prayers. Thank you, Sean. Spelled correctly for your prayers. Thank you all for your prayers. I need them. I'm in a little bit of a bad way. So I thank you for your prayers. Until we meet again, I pray that the Lord gives you shalom. It is so elusive in this world today. Let him give it to you. Until we meet again. Shalom Bishem Yeshua. Shalom Elekum. Shabbat Shalom.
