WHEN NO ONE SEES!

You've been a good person.

You've been a good person most of your life by not doing things. You don't cheat. You don't steal. You don't sleep around. You don't lie. At least you don't do the big ones. At least. And you keep a quiet inventory of everything you don't do. Well, I don't do this like that one does. I don't do this here, that thing over there like that one does. And the inventory goes on and on. What what what you don't do that other people do. You can't wait to find somebody that's doing the thing that you don't do, the big thing that you don't do that they do. You add to that inventory. Yet another thing I don't do. And you call that list being a good person. And you know what? You're tired. You've been subtracting for years, and somewhere, somewhere in there you started to suspect it wasn't working. I spec it ain't working now. You started to suspect it wasn't working. Because you you still don't feel clean. All that list keeping, all those I don't do that, at least I don't do that, and you still don't feel clean. You still don't feel pure. You feel careful, sure, but you don't feel clean. Your soul knows that those two things, they aren't the same thing. And here's what maybe nobody told you. I don't know. I don't know how old you are, I don't know any of those things about you. I don't know your life. God never wants defined holy as the list of things you don't do. He defined it as something you'd never have written yourself. And when you see it, it lands on the exact person you've been avoiding. Oh, believe me. There's a name that just came to mind. And I like country music. I like all kinds of music, but I like country music and classical music and all kinds of other music. And Dolly Parton, I absolutely adored her. And I have my whole life, since I was a little boy. Yeah, she was impressive. Her life was one of giving more than anyone will ever know. Absolutely stunning the life that woman has lived. And as time goes on, you'll start to see the things that she did in secret. It's pretty incredible. Um she built an impressive life. She loved God. She loved his people. Loved them all. She made no distinction. You're you're good enough for me to love you. Well, you're not good enough. Well, you do something I don't agree with, you do something I do. I'm gonna love you more than this one. No, no, no. She loved them all. She was gracious to them all. I never uh met Miss Dolly, but um I know people personally who who spent a fair bit of time with her, and uh they all said the same thing. Just an absolute gem. What you think she is, the good of who you thought she was, she was, and more. There are millions of children, hundreds of millions of books. The estimates range from two hundred to three hundred million books that she has given away. If it weren't for Dolly Part and Appalachia wouldn't have half the resources and education that they do. Yeah, and did you know that? It goes way deeper, and over time, the secret things that she did will come out. She is reunited with her dear family, her dear husband, and she is in the presence of the Lord, sitting there picking and playing some songs, and she will be absolutely missed. I told my wife over the past, well, I told everybody, really, anybody to listen, over the past many days, months, years, it's gonna be a hard day when we lose Dolly. People say well, you remember where you were.

I remember where I was when Charlie Kirk was murdered for talking politely, and uh we were driving in a car on the way, I think to Georgia. And it was devastating. Still wrong.

Uh and we were in Costco when my buddy Jerry, my dear friend Jerry, sent me a message and he knew how much I loved Dolly. And he said, the news has just come out, Dolly has And we kinda knew she was going because she sent out a message just not that many days ago.

It's a lot, a lot of work. She works by hand, she's a one-woman operation. I'm telling you, the camera, even though we're in 4K, this does not by any means, you can't really see how amazing it is, but the inside is just she's it's just unreal. Um, so wouldn't know how much. I mean, this would be 285 or more. Um, they range from 165, maybe less, up, you know, depending on how fancy that's fancy fancy. So uh amazing, just utterly amazing. I'm gonna promise you this that when I sit down to this chair, no matter how jacked up I am, and I'll be honest, I'm real jacked up right now. Um, a mess. The body's a mess. Hit my head again, and this one was a bad one. This one was a bad, bad fall. Uh, and I bounced it off of concrete. So we're getting medical care, and you know, it's interactive and intense and all that. And so we've been at the doctor, I think each day this week, and uh we're gonna be we're gonna be at the doctor. Okay, Linda is in 4-7. Um, you know, uh, so we'll be uh each day this week. Today I have two appointments. So anyway, we'll figure out if we've done any more damage to the brain, and uh obviously the body is what it is. So thank you for your continued prayers. It's it's if your Bible, if you want it to last a lifetime, you want to hand it to somebody and say, I want you to have this, and you want them to have it for a lifetime, and you want them to pass it on to somebody for a lifetime. They, you know, I've asked people over the past several weeks, what do you think of? And some have said, I'm like more than one said, I'm tired. By the way, I cut all of my eyebrows off. You don't want to see them today. Sometimes I don't make the connection between what I'm doing, and uh yeah, you know, trim my eyebrows and I cut them right off. The good news is I the doctors today can see whether I've done any damage in here because this is right where I hit here and then over here. I was a bloody mess. Super wobbly, even worse than before. So I appreciate your continued prayers. Anyway, holy, the word holy. I'm not holy. I I can only approach the Lord because of Yeshua, Jesus. It's the only way. It is the only way that I can do it. What about you? What do you think of? Don't let me, you know, some of the words that I've thought of, that's why I put them in here, is pressure, distance, tired. Give me the honest word, whatever you feel, holy. When you hear the word holy, don't give me the churchy word, churchy version, the bumper sticker one. You, what you feel inside for real. It's elaborate and you know, and in that process, you know, I immerse myself in many different translations of scripture. Um not just the primary ones that I love and that I use, but also ones that I'm eh, you know, little, little by the way, how's the sound and the lighting? I forgot to ask. Everything in Leviticus up to now has been aimed mostly at Aaron and his sons, the priests, of course, Leviticus. It's the profession. Right? They're the pros at this. Then chapter 19 opens, and God tells Moses to speak. This is tricky. God tells Moses to speak to Koledat Bene Bene Israel. Koladat Bine Israel. All the congregation of Israel, that's what that means. God says to Moses, speak to all of the congregation. Good morning, Miss Colleen. When you think of the word holy, what do you think of? Not the churchy word. What comes to your mind? We've had some great contributions. Vessel, overwhelmed, peace. I want to fall down. Of course, that's not one word. I want to fall down before the throne of God when I hear holy. Peace, unworthy. Amen. Wow, I like that. I like, I like all they're connected. God tells Moses to speak to Koladathabene, Bene Israel. All he's buying them, he's been talking through the priests. But now he says, talk to the entire congregation of Israel. You notice an entire nation was called a congregation. Why? Because they were God's people. They were God's people. Everyone. The farmer, the shepherd, the widow, the laborer with dirt under his nails. Holiness just got handed to the whole the whole nation, the moms. The emas. Yeah. Powerful. Holiness just got it. And the word matters, holy. Holy is kadush. It's spelled in Hebrew, Kuf Delet Shin. Colleen thinks of peace too. Awesome. Kuf delet shin. The word kadush in Hebrew. It's not nice, it's not religious. Set apart. Distinct. Other. A lot of us think, oh, nice. Religious? No. Set apart. Distinct. Other. God is saying you're mine now. You are mine now, so you're gonna look different all the way down. And you know that's a constant thing. It's a constant thing for me, you know. Mouth like a sailor. I'm working on that. Yeah, it's an everyday thing. That may seem silly and trivial and stupid to you, but I just gotta tell you, you know, I've been in the Navy, I've been in other government agencies, I've been a police officer at all levels. And yeah, language. It's a small thing, maybe, but it's a hard thing. So I think, holy man, I gotta work on myself. Believe me, I got way worse things than that, but I don't know about you. I don't know your life. God is saying you're mine now, so you're gonna look different all the way down. Now, I want you to set that against their ancient Near Eastern world. All across the ancient Near East, kings carved their justice into stone, bragging that under their reign the scales ran honest. No tipping the scales. And the widow was safe. But it was always about the king. And here God takes that royal ethic and hands it not to a king, but to a man, to the man weighing grain in a village that nobody's heard of. Somebody's buying the grain, and you know, he's got the scales there, and he thinks, man, if I could go short on this, charge them the same, go a little bit short. They won't notice. Come on. He's weighing grain in a village you wouldn't ever know. Maybe I go a little light, make a little more profit. Never know. Every Israelite now carries the justice the rest of the world reserved for royalty. And then he tells them what holy actually looks like. And it's almost never what we would have guessed. It don't feel bad if it's not anywhere close to what you said. I think all of those things that you chimed in with are beautiful, and I appreciate you doing it. God says, be holy. And then he spends 35 verses telling us what he means. Watch where he goes. It's fascinating. Look, I love this book. That's why I've studied it for decades. I love it. I love who inspired it. He starts in a field. When you harvest, don't reap to the edges and don't go back for what you dropped. Why? Seems like a weird thing, seems inefficient. Oh, you leave the corner standing for the poor and for the Ger, Girma, Rish, the outsider living among you, that person who is walking through, right? Walk, donkey, whatever, you know, whatever your conveyance is. I'm relatively confident they didn't have Uber then. But you don't do the whole field. You do the you leave some for the poor. For the outsider. Now I want you to catch here what it is not. It is in charity. God doesn't say gather a surplus and hand it out. He says stop. Quit harvesting before you're finished. See, little things don't mean a lot. They mean everything. You don't know until you dig deeper. You don't know till you dig deeper in the ancient Near Eastern language, culture, and context. That's why it's harder. But it's better. And that's what I do. Says, quit harvesting before you're finished, so that the person with absolutely nothing can come and gather with their own hands. And they can keep their dignity intact. Look, we're going to do the book of Ruth, and I'm probably going to boohoo through half of it. I love that book. But I want you to read through the book of Ruth someday. Read it all the way through. It's easy. Read it. You read it in this setting. But read through the book of Ruth someday, and you'll watch this exact law feed a widowed foreigner. Because a farmer named Boaz left his corners of his crop alone. And then you will see the Messiah's family tree run straight through that field. Come on, somebody. Then the commands, they come fast. Don't steal, don't lie, don't hold a worker's wage overnight because that was the day he needed to eat. Don't slander. Don't stand around while your neighbor's life is in danger. Don't stand around while your neighbor's life is in danger. That's specific. There was no, I talked a lot about it yesterday. If you missed yesterday's episode, I encourage you to go back to it. 100 101. 102. Yeah. 102. And then in verse 14, built with terrible precision. Blinding precision. Do not curse the deaf. I'm a hearing impaired guy. That jumped out at me. And do not put a stumbling block in front of the blind. What? I just tripped and fell because something wasn't marked. I didn't see it. You don't think these things are current? Come on. You don't think these things are applicable? They are. The deaf man never hears the insult, by the way. You think they can't hear you, but they can. Oh, they don't hear, but eventually it comes around to them. They feel it. Your people call it vibe, the vibe, but the energy you're putting out. Trust me. If you're one of those people that's constantly tearing others down, you don't have anything good to say, nothing positive. You're just constant with the negative. Believe me, people get it. The blind man never sees the hand that sets the trap. These are the two crimes on earth with almost no chance, the blind and deaf. No chance of being discovered by the victim, right? Well, who did this? Unless somebody tells that Saul, they will never know. So how does that line end? Not fear your neighbor. It ends, but you shall fear your God. Glory to God. Glory to Adonai Eroim. You shall fear your God. The victim was never the only witness in the room. How you treat someone who will never, never find out. They'll never find out what you did. That's the truest thing about you. And verse 17. Do not hate your brother in your heart. The alternative isn't a polite smile. It's you shall surely reprove him. You shall surely reprove him. Say the hard thing to his face. Stop saying stuff behind people's back. I hate seeing that. I hate when people do that. I really do. Well, they should know how I feel. Why? Why should they know? Emotions, feelings, all of these things, they're all difficult. They are all difficult, these things. We misunderstand each other all the time. Listen, I live with myself, and I misunderstand me half the time, and I'm a decent, halfway decent communicator. Now it takes a bunch of medical professionals to get me even to be able to do this every day. But I'll tell you this: it's easy to misunderstand people. Say the hard thing. God says, say the hard. Do not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely reprove him. Not under your breath, not behind its back, to his face. Stop being a wuss. And stop getting yourself all pumped up over it. Getting yourself, because then you're going to go at it hard. It's too hard. Just say the truth. Say the truth. It's not up to you how they respond to the truth. That's up to them. Say the hard thing to their face. Silent resentment is just what grows when you won't have the conversation. You swallow it, it curdles, it poisons you. Then your body goes septic. You call it keeping the peace. God calls it hate. God calls it hate. And then verse 8. Is anybody hearing me, by the way? Is this still going out over the airwave? If it is, say amen. And then verse 18, the summit. Wow, this look, don't skip over the Old Testament of the Bible. Don't do it. This there's no way you can understand the New Testament. Please tell me you understand this. There's no way you can understand the New Testament if you don't understand the Old. You got to understand the foundation. You gotta understand the type of people we're dealing with. They're early people. Early people, not just early Jews. They're early people. Early as an early people. Verse 18, love your neighbor as yourself. But watch what the English smooths over here. This is why it's so important. The ancient Near Eastern language, culture, and context, the Hebrew, the Aramaic, and then when we get into the New Testament, the Koine Greek. Watch what the English smooths over. The Hebrew is the afta levi acha chamocha. There's a small letter in there. Lament.

That technically shouldn't be.

Love your neighbor. Instead, it reads more like love toward your neighbor. We read it as love your neighbor as yourself, right? We think that's it. No. Love toward your neighbor. You say, Oh, what's the difference? Love for your neighbor. And that one preposition tilts the whole command away from some warm feeling you're supposed to manufacture towards something you're supposed to do. Act in love toward the one who is like you, right? Your neighbor. Community was everything in the ancient Near East, in Israel. Everything. You depended, you depended on each other for everything. Act in love toward the one who is like you. And that verb, the afta, and you shall love, and you shall love. It's the same word that shows up in Deuteronomy 6 for loving God with everything you are. Your love for God and your love for your people spoken in the same grammar. Oh, tell me you got that. Your love for God and your love for your neighbor spoken in the same grammar, same word, same way. Yeshua is about to pick that up. And in verse 34, when a ger lives in your land, love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. Have you ever been a stranger somewhere? When you're contemplating relocating, one of the biggest things. What becomes of my friendships? My best friend, my close friends, the relationships I have, the ones that are they're easy now. They were once difficult too. Some of them weren't, some of them were instant love. That's the hardest thing, being a stranger in a land. And he says here, when a Ger lives in your land, love him as yourself, for you were once strangers in the land of Egypt. He's reminding these people, good morning, daughter of the King 72. It's an honor to have you. Listen, friends, listen, family. I don't know if you were ever, if you ever have had that experience of being a stranger in another place. Maybe it's traveling to another place. You're traveling through. Some place you travel to, you feel unwelcomed. You feel like, why would I ever come here again? Let alone move here. People aren't very nice. But then you go to places where everybody's nice to you and sweet to you, calls you hun, darling, sweetie, right? You love that. I want more of that. Where they give you directions or they they lead you. They say, Oh, don't you worry, hon. I you just follow me. I'll go down there and you just follow me and I'll show you right where it is. They don't poor. They're poor. And yet they give to you. You don't have to be rich to give to people. Verse 34 says, When a stranger lives in your land, love them as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. I want to just meh a little bit. Just a little bit. At one point, you weren't a believer. If you're a believer, you may be listening, you're not a believer. You're just kind of testing this. Thank you for joining us. I I hope that you play, I'm gonna give you a chance in a few minutes to place your faith in Christ. But if you're a believer, if you've been a believer, come on now. Let's not be ignorant to the people who are new to coming to church. They don't know the right way to dress the right way to dress. I'm doing air quotes radio audience. They don't know the right way to dress, they don't know the code words, they don't know the bumper sticker theology, they don't know any of it. They don't know the little sayings, they don't know any of it. And they're nervous. Don't you know they sat in that car for a little bit? When they pulled into, they don't know where to park, they don't know where to go. Go up to those people. If you've been there, welcome them. Be kind. Don't be fake and fancy. Just be real. Hey, how y'all? I haven't seen you around here before. Where y'all from? Awesome. Good to have you. Large church, small church, doesn't matter. You can do it. Don't be sitting there talking to the same people you talk to all the time. Get together with them outside of church. Find the person who is a stranger in the edge of your field and go love on them. Maybe that's your calling, friend. Maybe that's your calling. You say I don't have much. I don't have anything to give, but maybe that's your calling. Your friend, you're beautiful. You have a beautiful smile. You're humble and you're open at the same time. All the stranger needs is someone to be kind. Oh, Miss Nicole, especially when they come by themselves, be inclusive. Hey, do you have a Bible? Hey, we have them in the back of the pew. And you know what? If if you don't have a Bible and you want one, take that Bible home with you. Oh, if you only knew how important it is. We go out into society and we say we're followers of the way. And in the grocery store, we don't even be kind to people. You say, well, people haven't been kind to me. It's not about what they are to you. It's about you being the love of Christ. Leave a little bit of yourself around the edge of you. For those who are strangers in that land, all it takes is a smile. Now, I want you to come back. I want you to come back to where we started. By the way, Miss Colleen, nobody has seen my eyebrows. I cut them off by accident today. I do stupid things all the time. That's one of the stupid things that I did. Yeah. But then I found a positive. I said, well, wait a second. Now the doctors can look in there and see if I've, you know, cut or cracked anything. When I fell, banged my head off the concrete. So I want you to come back to where we started. You've been chasing holy by subtraction.

Right?

Cutting, avoiding. Listen, I'm as jacked up. Some of you know me well. Some of you know me better than most people. And you know I'm a jacked-up dude. I got my stuff. Got my hurts, my habits, my hangups. I have my addictions. You've been chasing wholly by subtraction. Cutting, avoiding, keeping the list. Tick, tick, tick, tick. Looking at everybody else. Well, at least I don't do that. Well, at least I don't do that. Well, at least I don't do that. And you're worn out. You're worn out. You're tired. You're exhausted. And you still don't feel clean. And now you know why. You're welcome. Free of charge, no cost or obligation yet. You've been playing the wrong game the whole time. Leviticus 19 says holiness was never about the absence of a bad thing, it's the presence of love, capital L aimed at the person who cannot pay you back. Listen, it's a transactional society we live in now. One time I was I'm I'm good friends with some really super famous people. And uh and and and I was on this other podcast and he kept asking me. He says, You have all these famous friends. Please ask them to come on this podcast. You know, that would really help us. And I said, Well, I can ask them for sure, but you know, it starts at $20,000 for a 12-minute appearance. He goes, Yeah, but you're their friend. They'll do it for you for free. No, they won't. They won't come on my podcast for free. They give me a little discount. But it isn't free. And it's usually around 50 grand. I mean, they're they're huge stars. You wouldn't know who they are. But that's what they do. That's that is part of how they make their money. It's their business. You say, man, that sounds rude. That sounds hard. That's business, man. I'm not, I don't have any shade toward them. But let me tell you something. When's the last time you did something for somebody, couldn't pay you back? You lent money. You knew you were never going to see that money again. Don't make it a lend. Make it a gift. If you can. When's the last time you saw somebody struggling, coming out to the grocery store parking lot? They're nervous about crossing. Cars are crazy because nobody, nobody's paying attention. Everybody's like this. This is everybody now. Get off your phones. What's the matter with you? There ain't nothing that's more important than getting somewhere safely. If not for you, for all the other nut jobs out there that can't put their phone down, that don't know what hands-free is. Every modern car has it. Stop with the driving and texting and holding you. This is not hands-free, putting the phone on speaker and driving like this. That's not hands-free. You say, Well, you're awful sensitive about this. It's the law. Christian, you claim to be a Christian. Well, you don't. Oh, Speeding. What's the speed limit? Well, I don't want to get run over. That elderly lady, that infirmed person is nervous about walking across the street. I know. I know you can't in your mind envision it. You go, walk to our street, it's nothing easier than that. They come out of that grocery or that store or wherever, and they've got the buggy, and they're going across and and and they're they're they're nervous. They're nervous because people don't pay attention. People don't care. Need an extra set of eyes that'd be sure good. And you say, hey, why don't you walk across here with me? This is crazy, this place. See all these people. Come on, let's let's we'll put all we'll put all our resources together here and we'll walk across. Which which aisle are you in? And then they look at you like, oh man, what aisle am I in? You say, no worries. No worries. Maybe it's pouring down rain. And you notice the lady or the man or or or the young person doesn't have an umbrella or a raincoat. It's pouring down raining. They're just standing there. And you can tell they're nervous because they got to get home. Not just so the free frozen goods won't thaw, but maybe they got somebody waiting on them. Maybe they got to get to work. Maybe they work second or third shift. And you have an umbrella, don't walk right past them. Say, hey, come on, we'll get under this umbrella. And we'll get you to your car, get you loaded, okay? That way you'll get wet, but you won't get that wet. And if they say no, thank you, it's because they're nervous. They're nervous about being robbed, being taken, being taken advantage of. Just be kind. And if they say no, say don't get mad at them because they're afraid. They say no out of fear. Plus, how many people are coming up to them? In the true South, lots of folks come up. Hey now, come on, I got you an umbrella. Hey, I didn't, I left the house and I had the umbrella, I had it in my car. And that's the only reason I have it. I wouldn't have brought it. It was sunny, and now it's pouring down rain. Come on, I'll take you over to your car. Come on now. We'll get you loaded. Get you inside your car. You so you won't be drenched driving home. It'll be different. They won't have they won't have any concept. Are you are you hearing me? Are you listening? It's the presence of love aimed at the person who cannot pay you back. It's the wage you release on time when no one would have known you held it. The corner. The corner you leave standing. That field you leave the corner standing when the whole harvest could have been yours more profit. You leave that little bit for somebody. And it's that name that, by the way, it makes me think of um farmers who have woods, you know, as part of their fields, you know, in their land, they have woods. And sometimes they'll leave three or four rows along the edge so the deer have something to eat. Now, you might say, yeah, that's so they can hunt them. True. But deer herds have to be culled. They populate very quickly. They'll in just a very short time, they can double their population. And so they don't starve or they don't get disease. Leave that. They don't call all of them, they call some of them. Look, it's that name that came to you. Remember in the first 30 seconds of this episode, I said, what names come into your mind? That person you keep almost calling, the one you quietly cross the road to avoid. Not because you're cruel, but because stopping would cost you an afternoon that you meant to send spend by yourself. It would cost you a few minutes. Oh, that's Sean Greener. He talks too much. He all the time talking too much. On and on and on, that boy. That boy goes on and on. He wears me out with all the stuff he says. I ain't no way in this world. I'm across this road right here. Hope he don't see me. I ain't looking back. Is he looking? Is he looking? Whew, I bump into that guy. He's gonna talk my ear off. Probably will. Sorry, not sorry. We gotta start loving each other. Look, you don't feel holy because you've been counting what you avoid. God counts who you love when there's nothing in it for you. That's not a heavier load. It's a lighter load. You can't subtract your way to clean. But you can go love one person before it turns dark today. So here's today. And it's specific. Before the sun goes down, do one of two things. One of two things. I've been practicing that for like, you know, 24 hours. One of two things. Hey, you may say that's an easy thing. That's hard for me. One of two things. And look, I've been practicing because I don't want to wave at you with my angry finger. Listen, leave a corner. Leave a corner of your field, of your emotions, of your kindness. Take one piece of your margin, of your energy, of your emotions, of your kindness. A few minutes. An hour. A hundred dollars. There are two people, by the way, who gave, and I know it isn't easy for them to give, especially the amount they gave. There are some people that give monthly to what I do here. I'm not a 501c3. I'm not going to send you a slip in the mail. You can't um deduct it from your taxes. It helps what we do. They did that. They gave sacrificially. There was nothing in it for them. There's one that gives every single month. There's nothing in it for them either. Take one piece of your margin. An hour. An hour of your time. What's that? It's a vapor. A hundred bucks maybe. Maybe one of these times we had a we had a server at a restaurant. We got together with Jerry and Myra. And we had, they've been on the show a few times. Love them. Been friends my whole life. And we went to this restaurant we would have never gone to, but it was a special occasion. And and we went there. And we had this waitress. Her name was Holly. Wow. Boy, did we ever love her from the second she walked up. Tip well. Tip well. Now Holly's story wasn't one of, hmm, wasn't a sad story really. It's a beautiful story. You know me. I get people's story. But you know, we've been in restaurants where we know the story isn't so good. Where you know that person's in a struggle. Some of them are in a struggle for their life. Look, I know we don't have a lot of money. Sometimes. Some of us don't. Sometimes adding, you know, you put you look at the tip amount, you go, 20%? She was great. He was great. But 20%, I could keep that money. And when you think that, get a little bit more than 20. Make it a sacrifice for you. For them. Don't make a big deal out of it. Say, I sure appreciated you. Today you took such great care of me. You took such great care of us. We so enjoyed you today. Make their day. Would it cost you anything that before you pray over your food, and I hope that you do, don't care if it's acceptable wherever you live to pray over your food. Pray anyway. And you say to say to the waiter or the waitress, server, whatever, you say, hey, we're fixing to pray over our food. By the way, get their name and use their name. Get their name. They're not just a person there. Life is hard. If they're there doing that, life is hard. Being a server is not easy. Get their name. And introduce yourself. Give them your name. Say, Ashley, listen, we're fixing to pray for our food. Pray over our food. Give thanks over our food. And I'm wondering, since we're praying anyway, is there anything that we can pray for for you? We've had them knee, we've had their knees buckled. We've had them had to sit down because they were fixing to cry. Because they've never had anybody ask them, can I pray for you? And then they tell us their story. And it's an awful, awful story. And you wonder how that person ever walked up to your table in the first place and put a smile on his or her face and said, How can I help you today? What can I get you? Ooh, save some room for the pie. Hey, the steak is extra good today. My buddy, get you some of that okri. That's how they say it in the South, okra. My buddy tells me, he sent me some recipes. He says, super good for you. You'll love it. I'm gonna try. I've tried it many times. I can't ever like it, but I will try. Listen, y'all. What would it cost you to take that person by the hand and say, Don't pray some big long prayer, by the way. They don't have time, they gotta serve. You don't want them getting fired because they're praying with you. You just pray for them. Father, you know Ashley's story, you know, you know Alan's story. They've shared it with us today, and you know it even with greater depth than what they've shared. And I just pray that you would work within their life. That you would work within this situation, that you would show yourself, the Holy Spirit, the Rakhakadesh, supernaturally intervene as only you can. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Yeshua. Amen. And then squeeze that hand and say, I'm gonna continue praying for you. I hope that's okay. And they'll look at you and say, It's okay. We've had people say, No. No, I don't pray. I don't do anything, I don't believe in any of that. Okay, no problem. Pray for them anyway. They're not gonna be standing around. They know you're praying, and they're hey, that's the last thing in the world they want to be around. They want to get away from that fire. Leave a corner. Take one piece of your margin, an hour, a hundred dollars, a skill, a seat at your table. And instead of spending, listen, Dolly Parton, one of the greatest things about Dolly Parton, may God rest her soul. Beautiful human being. May God rest her soul, may her reward be great. She gave to people could never pay her back. Some of the people in country music, rock music, whatever kind of music, they owe her entire career to Dolly Parton. She was the most prolific songwriter of all time. And sometimes she gave those songs away. Hey, sent a note, sweet little note. Somebody, not even best friends, we just met him. You know, I was thinking about you after we met, and I said to myself, now, Dolly, you've got this one song and you've had it written for a long time. And I think you could probably record this song. I think it would do right well for you. I'd like you to have it. Do you know what that means? Do you know what she's given away? She made more money in her lifetime over the songs that she wrote than any of the songs that she ever sang. She gave some of them away. She offered to collaborate with some people, didn't ask for anything. Instead of spending it all on yourself, leave some of it standing for someone who cannot pay you back. Not a faceless donation, something with a face on it. Or maybe go to the one you've been walking past. You've seen this person, and you keep walking past, walking past, walking past. You see them in the grocery, and boy, they're paying super close attention. You see them got their calculator out, got their phone and they're calculating. Why? Could be because they can't afford it. Maybe you already have the name you thought of. Send the text. Maybe it's not a money thing, maybe it's not a any of those things. Maybe. I don't know, but J Sid Boy 8378. I don't know. I don't know about that answer or about that question. But I'm glad you're listening. I don't agree. God is real. I wish you'd ask him into your heart. I'm gonna give you a minute here in a minute to do it. I wish you would. But you have every right to not believe. Listen, you already have the name. You've been walking past, walking past. Doesn't cost you anything to send a text. Doesn't cost you anything. Take a minute, make a call. Say, hey, I was just thinking of you. I just wanted you to know. And you know what? Maybe there's an honest word you've been swallowing over time. Say the word. Speak the brief sentence. Don't go into a big diatribe. Just speak the sentence. Do it today because it will never be convenient. You say, well, it's not convenient right now. It'll never be convenient. That's the point. One person, one corner before dark. Here's where the whole thing cracks open, by the way. Centuries later, a lawyer walks up to Yeshua. And he walks up to him to trap him. Which command is the greatest? You've heard this before. Yeshua answers with two welded together. Love the Lord your God with all your heart. That's from Deuteronomy 6. You've got to know the Old Testament to even understand what he was quoting and why. And the second is like it: love your neighbor as yourself, straight out of this chapter. Love your neighbor as yourself. You wouldn't know if you didn't read this and understand it. On these two, he says, hang all the law and the prophets. He reached into Leviticus 19 and he called one verse of it, half of everything. Come on, somebody, shout amen. Then another lawyer tries to shrink it. Who exactly counts as my neighbor? And Yeshua tells him about a man beaten and bleeding in a ditch, a priest who saw him and crossed to the far side, didn't want to get involved. Listen, I was laying on a road on Saturday morning in Georgia, and I had just fallen. I'm obviously and clearly handicapped. Yeah, I'm a big guy. But I fell and bounced my head. It was early morning, and there were cars, people going to work, zipping by. Not a single one slowed down. Not a single one pulled over and rolled the side window down and said, Hey, you all right? You need me to call 911. Hey, the police station's right down there. Let me run down there. I'm going to get them and they're going to call the ambulance for you. Just hang tight.

No. Nobody even did any of that.

But Yeshua tells this story about a man beaten and bleeding in a ditch and a priest, you know, a Christian who saw him and crossed to the far side. Don't want to get involved. And a Levite who did the same. This is a person supposed to be holiness. Two holiness professionals, they're pros at this. Two spotless lists. And they kept walking. The men with the clean lists failed the chapter. They failed the chapter because they marked down.

But they didn't do what they were called to do. And an outsider, a Samaritan, a geir, they're the one that stopped.

They're the one that helped. They're the one that saved the person's life. Listen, holiness isn't what you avoid, it's who you refuse to walk past. And here's the gospel in one motion. When you were the one bleeding in the ditch, the stranger with no claim at Yeshua, uh, not even a little bit. Yeshua did not cross to the other side. He came all the way down into the ditch where you were. He kept every line of this chapter you couldn't. And then he lifted the one you couldn't. You never earned the corner. It was there. It was left there on purpose with your name on it. I have for you today a challenge and a choice. Even you, J Sitboy8378, and any of you who are listening who have never placed your faith in Christ, here's the choice. Listen. Listen, if you're a believer, especially, here's your challenge and here's your choice. And it's honest. You can keep the list. Go ahead. Keep subtracting. If you want to. I don't know. You do your thing. You do you, boo. Keep subtracting. Keep avoiding. Keep crossing the road to avoid and stay careful and clean and hollow and tired. And let me tell you something, a lot of people die. A lot of good religious Christians die on that road. Or you lay the list down. Put it down. You go find the one you've been walking past, and you discover holiness was never in a cage. Holiness was never a cage. It was a person. And he's been in the ditch the whole time and waiting for you to come close.

Careful or holy? Which do you want to be?

You can't be both. Careful or holy? Prayer isn't asking for an easy journey, it's asking for a strong back. Father, you said to be holy. You said to be holy, and then showed us what you meant. And it was nothing like the list I've been keeping.

And nothing like the list maybe the listeners have been keeping. God, we've turned you into an inspector of things we don't do. Things we don't do. And we walk past bleeding people, trotting along our way to look clean.

I ask that you forgive me, forgive us. The wage we've held, the word we swallowed, and called peace, the grudge we've been feeding and calling discernment. I ask, Father God, that you remind us we were strangers once. Every one of us stood outside with no claim on you, and you left something for us in the field. Anyway, I ask that you now make us people who stop walking past, put one face in front of us today, and give us the strong back to go.

In the name of Yeshua, we pray.

Amen. Maybe look, maybe look underneath underneath all of this, you've realized the tired part was never the scheduling problem. It's a soul problem. It was never a scheduling problem at all. It's a soul problem. You've tried to get clean by removal your whole life, and it cannot be done. Ticking boxes can't be done. Because no one gets holy by subtraction. No one gets holy by ticking boxes. But the one who lived this whole chapter perfectly came down into your ditch to carry you out just like he did me. You don't clean up first. You don't know all the answers first.

You just come just as you are. You just come. Today's the day.

Today's the day you stop earning and start belonging. Let's settle it now. Pray with me. It's easy. Pray and believe. Yeshua, I need you. I believe you died and rose from the grave. And I surrender my life to you.

I surrender my life to you today, right now. Forgive me. Fill me. Lead me. My life is yours. In your heavenly name.

That's an eternity decision. Heaven just leaned in close over you, and heaven is rejoicing, and so am I. You were never going to scrub your way to clean. Holiness was never the empty space where the sin used to be. It's a full field with the corners left standing. It's a road you refuse to cross.
