What if it CAN'T be Undone?

Well, here we are. We're working through it. Trying to do it. Make it happen. True word, faith for life with Dr. Sean. I'm Sean. I'll say it again so you'll remember. There's a thing that you did.

Or or maybe it's a thing that happened through you. You weren't trying to hurt anybody. You'd give anything to reach back and undo it. I know I would. But you can't. You just can't. I mean, you would give anything. If you could undo what you did or what you were a part of, you do it. You do it in a heartbeat. But you can't, because it's done. You can't unring a bell.

And some part of you has been running from that ever since it happened. Hey, maybe nobody knows. Maybe, maybe nobody knows. Maybe everybody knows. Maybe it was a big deal. Maybe it was a a little tiny deal. Maybe it was a something that happened in your inner circle. The people that love you the most and you love the most and you want them to respect you.

You value. You value them more than anything. Either way. Nobody knows, everybody knows. Who knows?

Either way, it runs your life from the backseat.

It's been backseat driving you ever since it happened. We've built the whole thing around never getting caught. Never getting caught out in the open, exposed. With that situation. So you keep moving.

You don't let people get too close. Because if they ever saw it, if they ever if they ever knew what you cost somebody, you're sure the sentence comes down fast and hard. So you live like a fugitive in your own history. You're running from your own history.

You're always braced. Always ready to run.

Here's what I need you to hear before we open a single verse today. First of all, I'm having a real tough time physically, so don't panic if something happens. Those of you who know. Um yeah, I don't know what's happening. We don't know. I'm going to get looked at today. So here's what I need you to hear before before anything else happens. Before we crack this thing wide open. And and the first thing he built wasn't a courtroom.

It was a city. He built a city, a place to run to. And he carved your name into the gate.

Yesterday we we were entertaining about 300 and something during the live. That was the average during the live. So yeah, it's nice. It's a cool thing. I don't guess I've even mentioned, I mean, if you're watching, you can see the big true word faith for life with Dr. Sean on there. But um, this is true word faith for life with Dr. Sean. And I will just tell you so you don't have to wonder, I am Sean. So we before we open the word today, I want to honor something that's happening right now. Our Jewish friends and our observant uh Christian friends are followers of the way. Thank you, Robbie. Robbie says, good sound. Thank you so much. What do you all think of the background? All that busyness. Anyway. You know, I I have dear friends who are who are uh followers of the way, but they observe the the uh high holy days and and all of that, and I do some of them. And it's not because I like one more than the other, it's just I have the ability to do like sukkod. I can't build it. But I do observe it, I do remember it. I pray special prayers for my Jewish brothers and sisters. So our Jewish friends are keeping Yom Kippur, the day of atonement. It's a big deal. It's that's the most solemn day on their calendar. It's a full day of fasting and prayer, of returning to God with empty hands and asking to be made clean.

The name says it.

It's day, and kippur from a root that means to cover, to wipe clean, to atone. It's the day that holds the whole theology of atonement in one place. The high priest, the veil, the blood, the sin covered, and the sin carried away. God gave this day to his covenant people in Leviticus 16, and they are keeping it faithfully today. Thank you, to be continued, brother. I appreciate that. Yeah, I figured I would spring for that because uh, yeah, just it's too busy. Too busy back there. So we we honor the Jews for that, and those who are observing, and and for those who follow Yeshua, we can we can receive the weight of this day with gratitude. Because every picture in it, the priest going behind the veil, the goat carrying the guilt out into the wilderness, it was always pointing somewhere. It was pointing to a great high priest who would enter once for all and carry the guilt, not into the desert, but all the way to the cross. So today, as our Jewish friends fast and pray, we stand near them with respect. And we thank God for the day he gave to teach the whole world what it cost to be made clean.

So we're finishing the book of Numbers today, chapters 34, 35, and 36. And Robbie, I built in, I redid um my notes uh for today and tomorrow, and I'm gonna build it in to do it from here on out. Where if I give a scripture reference, uh I'm gonna give the specific verse. Um that was a good suggestion. Good morning, Miss Colleen. I am still alive as you can see. Uh anyway. Check your text message. She's very she puts up with a lot. So it's hard. It's hard for it's hard to be with somebody living on the razor's edge of life and death. That's what the doctors told me. You're living on the razor's edge of life and death every day. If I don't answer a text, is he dead? Did he finally die? It's tough. Nothing easy about it. I have outlived my uh life expectancy big time. And all glory to God. Um, I thank him for my VA medical team and all the doctors out in the civilian community who who give me great care. I'm gonna see two of my favorites today, and uh they are they are amazing, and I love them. I've been seeing them for seven years. Every week for seven years. Not the speech therapist, but uh it's pretty cool. I don't know what guner means, but if you're not polite and kind and respectful, you will go fly away. The B-A-N button is easy to hit. Is there a stop on your road that you're still running from? Don't tell the story. Just say yes or no. Just tell yourself the truth about it. That's that's what I really want. God already knows the truth. Just tell yourself the truth about whether it's there. Yes or no? Well, here we go. I hope you're ready. Israel is camped on the plains of Moab, right across the river. Right across the river, it's right across the river from everything they've waited 40 years for. Chapter 34 draws the borders of the land, not what they are now. I believe Israel should reclaim all the land that God gave them. I absolutely believe that. Say, well, you know, they're on stolen land. Well, they're not on stolen land. There was no Palestina, there were no Palestina people. I do a whole thing on it. I give you all the actual facts, and um, we give you more than that. We give you the whole layout, how it happened, why it's where it is now, who the players are. So, chapter 34. It draws the borders of the land and names the men who will divide it. It's a place measured and assigned by God. Then chapter 35 does something no other law code in the ancient world had the nerve to do. You have to feel, you have to feel the the ancient Near Eastern world that Israel lived in first. If your relative was killed, the answer was blood. The Goel, spelled Emel Elef Lamed, the kinsman. The same word scripture later uses for redeemer. Was bound by duty to hunt down, and whoever did it, whoever did it, they had to hunt them down. I'm not kidding you. And they had to settle the account in blood. I want you to lean back in that word. Lean back with that word in your in your in your brain box. Just for a second. The Redeemer and the Avenger are the same person. The one who buys you back and the one who comes for blood. It's one word. And here's what that old system could not do. I couldn't tell the difference between a man who killed on purpose and a man whose axe head flew off the handle and killed his neighbor by accident. Both leave a body. Both wake up the Avenger. So into that world, God builds six cities. In Hebrew, Ari miklat, miklat, cities of refuge. Miklat spelled Mim Kuflamed Tit, means a place that takes you in and covers you. Three on each side of Jordan, spaced out, so no one in Israel is ever more than a hard day's run from safety. And God hands his people something the ancient world it almost never had. A legal line between the man who killed with hate in his heart and the man who killed Bishkaga by mistake with no ambush in it. That line is mercy built right into the map. Read that in. Walk through chapter 35 with me. Because it's stranger and better than most people remember. In Numbers chapter 35, verses 11 and 12, the man who killed someone, they run for the nearest city of refuge. The gate takes them in, then the community judges between the slayer and the avenger. They ask the one question that decides everything. Did he mean it? Was there hate in it? Did he lie in wait? Or did his hands do something in one second that his heart never planned? Now, I wasn't going to do this. Miss Colleen, I told her that I rewrote this entire episode. One, to put in the verse numbers and all that. Two, to better reflect the ancient Near Eastern accuracy, the scripture, how it really is presented in the ancient Near Eastern language culture and context. That's that's my jam. That's what I do. And I do it for you all because I don't think you want to learn. By the way, if you're not a subscriber, I mean you could just click over there and click on the subscribe and click on the little bell for all notifications and hit that thumbs up while you're at it. It helps more than you can imagine. Because the algorithm wants people to want it before they'll show. It's just reality. Most of you get a link, but the others, they don't. They're just whatever's in their feed. So here's the translation deal. This is one of the reasons why I rewrote this yesterday. And it's worth stopping on because our working translations all wrestle with it. Blah blah blah. Every single one of them wrestle with this. In Numbers chapter 35, verses 16 through 23, if you're writing them down. And I'd encourage you to. I don't know. Make a special thing of it. It's an idea. Sometimes they have questions. I taught in Bible college and and um I always encourage people take good notes. And I would you'd always know the ones that took good notes. But it just is still helpful. One of the people, we don't see her in the morning because she's you know, she struggles. With serious health issues. Sometimes we see her, but Miss Sharon, she, her notes are exceptional. And I've I've seen them. I've sat next to her at Virginia Creek Ministries, listened to Pastor Russ Wright preach, and uh love that dude. Amazing, 80 years old, still getting after it. He's an amazing human being. So is Miss Kathy. Everybody over there is. They're wonderful. I'm telling you, you you drive into a campground, you're driving through this wall of trees on either side and this winding tiny road, and you're like, where am I headed? It's a beautiful place. Some people live there permanently, and other people live, you know, temporarily. It's like a normal campground, but it's also a permanent campground, too. People live there. They've chosen to sell everything and uh and live simply. That's pretty cool. I'd do it if I thought I could. I don't think I can. Anyway, 9 30 Sunday. I get there early if I'm the 27th of September, I should say. If you're listening back, I don't want you to show up. Well, you could show up there, but I'm just not gonna be there, maybe. But um, I'll be there this Sunday. So in Numbers chapter 35, verses 16 through 23. I already said what I'm gonna say about the notes. If you're not a note taker, that's okay. Some people say, look, I just want to hear it. I just I focus and I hear it. And if something stands out to me, I'll write it down. But you can always come back, even right after the live, you can always come back and listen to it again. So the Hebrew leans on the root Rotzat. Rutzjak. For the man who kills. The cold-blooded murderer and the accidental manslayer come off the same route. And English can't stand that because we we we can't reconcile the reality of what that is. That's why I say uh, you know, English, English is a great language. I love it. It's my primary language. I do love it. Uh, but the fact is, is is there are very few, very few words in the Hebrew language, but it's a phenomenal language. It does so many things that English just never can do, or any other language. So the English Standard Version and the New American Standard Bible, which I like both of those, they pick murderer in one verse and manslayer in the next, reading the intent off the surrounding lines. The complete Jewish Bible, which I love, does the same thing. But Hebrew itself, the Hebrew itself, it won't sort them clean by vocabulary. It lays them side by side under one root and throws the whole weight onto the question of the heart. Did you mean it? Was it an accident? You thought the axe handle and the and the axe head, you you thought it was there, you thought it was, you had put the little shims in, and and you were cutting wood, and and your neighbor was over there and he was talking to you, and you were there, and and you, but you, but you you you had to get this wood cut and finished, and and y'all were talking about stuff, and you swung at that at that stump. A piece of wood, you were just trying to split it. And the axe handle fell off, and you knew. Mid-swing, you knew. And you were like, oh my god, please don't ask. Please don't add. But it did. And they didn't have urgent cares or anything like that. And your neighbor, who you loved like a brother, died. And it broke your own heart. Devastated. And now you have to live next to the family. How do they make it? And your heart is crushed.

Well.

Then there's also the neighbor that you hate. And you get in an argument at defense. It doesn't matter about what. It came to blows and you had the axe. You whacked him with it. And he died. Did you mean it? Not did you regret the outcome? Because you could have meant it at the time. And regret the outcome. Now watch what the refuge actually is. In Numbers chapter 35, verse 20, this is for you to write down if you want. Verses 22 through 25. Chapter 35 in uh Numbers, but me bar. Chapter 35, verses 22 through 25. If the killing was an accident, the man is safe inside the city. The Avenger can't touch him there. But here's the part people forget. He can't just go home. He has to stay inside. Numbers chapter 35, verses 26 and 27 says the moment he steps one foot past the boundary, the Avenger can lawfully take him. He's safe, but he's only safe inside that area. And now watch the account get settled. Because Moses doesn't, he doesn't leave the blood hanging in the air. In Numbers chapter 35, verses 33 and 34, God says the land itself is polluted by the blood that was spilled on it. I want you to listen to how he says it clears. No atonement can be made for the land except by blood. Blood spilled it, blood cleans it. That's the ledger. Somebody's blood has to answer for it before the land is clean, and God keeps dwelling in the middle of his people. So how does an accidental manslayer ever go home if the ledger reads like that? Good question. Because right in the middle of it comes the sentence that changes the whole book. Numbers chapter 35, verses, well, verse 25, and again in verse 28. The man stays in the city of refuge until the death of the high priest. When the high priest dies, the man walks out free, back to his own land, his own house, his own people, the death of one man opens the gate. And I want you to take a breath. I want you to breathe this in. I want you to feel what just happened. The land needed blood to be clean, and the death that clears it is not the manslayers. It's not the person who accidentally did it. It's the high priest. His death is the one that answers the ledger. So the man who couldn't undo what he did gets to go home without giving his own life for it. Man, let me tell you. The commentators have chewed on this for centuries, and the plain shape of it is hard to miss. The priest dies, and a guilty man goes free. Hang on to that. We're gonna come back to it. So then chapter 36 closes the book on a place that can't be lost. In Numbers chapter 36, verses 6 through 9, the daughters of Zlephonat, Zelofehad, I always mispronounce that one. They'd already won the right to inherit their father's land because he had no sons. Now the worry is simple. If they marry outside the tribe, the land walks off with them, and their tribe loses it for good. God's ruling is gentle and it's firm. Marry whoever you want as long as it's inside your father's tribe. So the inheritance stays anchored. Think about that. I want you to think about that. Forty years of wandering in the book of Numbers ends on the securing of a home so that nobody's inheritance slips away. You say that's great, but what about me? What about the life I'm living right now, right here? So here's a bridge back to you. And you've been bracing for the courtroom. You have. You've been bracing for the courtroom. God's first move toward the person who caused harm, they can't take back. They caused harm. They can't take back. They wish they could, but you can't. You wish you could, but you can't. It was a road and an open gate, not a trial, a refuge. But notice two things the city is not. It's not denial. The death was real. Good morning, Miss Sharon. I was just talking about you and how great a note you take. Phenomenal. Love it. Miss Colleen takes good notes too. And her handwriting is so pretty. I don't know how that happens. You can't read my notes. Post-crash, or a good handwriting, a beautiful handwriting before the crash, but anyway, another story now. So it's not denial. The death was real. The harm was real. Nobody inside the city pretended nothing happened. The refuge never asks you to lie about your road. It just refuses to let the Avenger have you. It's not a life sentence either. The gate opens. The man goes home. There's an ending written into it from the very start. Here's the hard, honest part. I've had to live with this one myself. I'm currently living with this one myself. The refuge only works if you stay inside. The second that man Slayer wandered back out into his old open country alone, he was exposed all over again. Staying wasn't a one-time sprint through the gate. It wasn't dodgeball and you had a safe spot. It's a daily choice. It's a daily choice to keep living inside the place that kept him, and that's you. You don't run in once. You live in. So here's the step for today. And you can do it before dark. Or you can do it before light, whichever time you listen to this. Just name the road you're running from. Name the thing you're running from. Out loud to God. Just once. You don't have to repeat it over and over. Not to everybody, to Him. Then do one thing that runs, it runs you toward the refuge instead of away from it. You already know the out, you've done the outrunning. Oh my lands, you've done the outrunning. You're tired from running from it. Hoping this person doesn't come in and talk to this person because if they do. The scrolling, the drink, the extra hours at work so you don't have to sit in your own skin at your home. You've done all the avoidance things. Today I want you to trade one of those for one run inward. I want you to write this down. Open the word to Psalm 46 and read the whole thing. Slowly. Come on, you can do it. It's easy. And then I want you to call the one safe person, the person you know you can tell, and say the true thing out loud. Run in, not out, one time today. Now, why does a law about six ancient cities reach across 3,000 years and land in your chest today? Because the writer of Hebrews knew exactly what that refuge word carried. And he reached back and he picked it up on purpose. In Hebrews chapter 6, verse 18, he says, we have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set in front of us. Fled for refuge. That's not a soft churchy phrase. It's not a buzzword or buzzphrase or whatever catchphrase for churchy stuff. That's a manslayer's word. That is a man sprinting for the gate with the Avenger closing the gap behind him. The Hebrews writer put that exact word in our hands because he wants us running for the same city. He gave his life intentionally. Yeshua carries that office forever. The great high priest, and he laid down his own life. His death is the blood that answers the ledger. His death is the death that opens your gate. You're not standing outside a courtroom waiting on a verdict for the thing you can't undo, you can't undo it. The verdict already ran through his body on a Roman cross up on a hill outside the city. The gate is open, the road home is clear. Stop running the perimeter. I have for you today a challenge and a choice, and it's real. It's real. You've got a choice today. You can keep circling outside, always braced, always ready to bolt, treating your worst day as a wall between you and God. Or you can cross the line. You can run in and you can stay. The city has been standing the entire time. The gate's been opened since the high priest died. The only question left is whether you can step across it today. Can you? Will you? That question is up to you. Prayer isn't asking for an easy journey, it's asking for a strong back. Pray with me, Heavenly Father. Pray for the ones who are who are mired in unbelief that are listening now. You know their names. They spend their time going from live YouTube faith broadcast to live YouTube faith broadcast. And now they've landed on True Word Faith for Life with Dr. Shaw. And their objective is to destroy. Help them in their unbelief. You knew there'd be people listening today, Heavenly Father, who caused something that they can never take back. You knew and your first answer to them wasn't a sentence, it was a city. And I thank you that you built refuge into the world before we ever needed it. God, I I ask. Only to bring it and run to you with it. Thank you that the gate isn't hanging on our performance. We'd be undone if it did. I thank you that it swung open the day our high priest died, Yeshua, your son, Jesus. And our life was secured when he left that grave. Because the grave could never hold him down. Still circling the outside. I ask that you give them the courage to cross the line today. Let them feel the walls of the refuge close in around them, not as a prison, but as the safest place they've ever stood. I ask all of this in the name of Yeshua, our refuge and our high priest and our redeemer, and my friend, your son, Yeshua. Amen. The act of placing your faith in Christ, the risen King. The act of going to him and saying, acknowledging that you are. A person with sin, with hurts, habits, and hangups. Ask him to forgive you. Ask him to come in your heart and he will. It's unreal. I don't know what to tell you. It's unreal. If you've been that fugitive and you're ready right now to stop running and step through the gate for the first time, you don't need the right words. You don't need the churchy words. You don't need the churchy outfit. You just need to come just as you are. Pray this with me, if you believe. Pray this with me. Yeshua, I need you. I believe you died for me and you rose from the grave, and I surrender my life to you today. Fill me. Lead me. I'm yours. In your name. Amen. You pray in the name of Jesus, Yeshua, and you're praying to him. He is the Redeemer. You just place your faith in him. You acknowledge that you're a sinner, that you have hurts, habits, and hangups. You ask for his forgiveness. You acknowledge him as the risen savior, and you ask him into your heart. You ask for forgiveness, and it is given. And you pray it in his name, Yeshua. He only needed it for a little while. Three days. He rose. And he spent some time among his disciples, among his friends. And then on the day of ascension, the last thing he did he reached out his hand. John, I want you to listen to this. I want you to hear this. Reach out to me.
