Too Far Gone?

Have you gone too far? You keep a private ledger. And you don't show it to anybody. On it you've written every line you've ever crossed, every bridge you've ever burned, every person you can't look in the eye anymore. And near the bottom of the page you drew a line, and under it you wrote three words. Too far gone. You decided the story was over. Whatever grace was on the table, you already spent it. The door you're standing outside is one you locked yourself from the inside. So you stop knocking. Before we open a document, you think ends with your failure. You think it has a clause. You think it has a clause in it, that document. You say, ooh, I don't know. That Bible document, it has a clause, it has a failure clause in it. Yeah, okay, okay. I never read it, I never saw it. But it's there. I'm sure it's there. It's got to be there because that's the way we work. In this modern world, that's how we work. And you think it was written before you ever failed. Some guesses. More to come. This is the daily walk. This is the daily walk through the Bible in a year, walking the story of God. And I'm in no hurry. Today we finish Leviticus. Did you know that? We're finishing Leviticus. And you came into it, maybe, maybe you're a person that came into it and said, you know what, I I I don't like Leviticus. In fact, I'm not so jacked on the whole Old Testament business to start with. Okay. How do you gonna understand the New Testament? Well, we trust the translators. Okay. Here we do it in the ancient Near Eastern language culture and context. We show you what it actually means. We show you what it meant to the people hearing the ears and what it meant coming from the mouth of the speakers. You can't understand it until you know that. Two chapters. We're doing two chapters, and it's the f look, the first turns from the chapter. To me, it's the most frightening chapter in the in this whole book. But it but it turns it from the most frightening into the most hopeful one in one single verse. And if you're in a big hurry to get through the Bible, you're chicken, you're you're you're chicken to take your time and go in deep, and you're ticking off boxes, box, box, box. Here I am, I'm finished. I did the Bible in a year. You don't understand a bit of it, but you did the Bible in a year. If you want to put away ticking off boxes, that's not what we do here. And if you think that's what we do here, you are sorely mistaken. If I die during the production of this, either today or throughout this coming year, till I finish. If I maybe I don't finish, that's how I'm gonna teach. Maybe your Bible has gone soft. Maybe the translators, you know, aren't aren't they didn't go soft. And I'm gonna tell you something. They won't last with what they come from the factory. They don't they ain't gonna last if you use them. I'm just gonna say it like I said it to Miss Colleen. They said we can't get good employees. They're all on their phone. You tell them something 37 times and then their feelings are hurt, or they're calling some lawyer going, oh, he was mean to me. She was mean to me. The working conditions are horrible. They're late to work, they're early to leave, they disappear hitting their vapes. And they won't leave those dead gum phones alone. And they render terrible service. I won't go into the rest of it. I'm trying to do my best here. I've got to do my best here. I have committed to God. When God said, I asked God, I said, What do you want me to do about this podcast? I'm a brain injured, spinal injured, cardiothoracic injured dude. I'm 100% disabled. If you could see what it takes to get me in this chair, you would go, I wouldn't do it. And I wouldn't blame you. It's stupid. It's they tell me, my medical team tells me, this is the stupidest thing you've ever done. I get it. But I believe God called me to it. I prayed and I asked, and this is what he told me. Teach them to walk the story of God. I have one question for you in the chat. And I want one word. I don't want a thousand words. To feel Leviticus 26, you have to know what an ancient person heard when this language started up. Chapter 26 isn't a random sermon on obedience, it's a treaty. And the shape was famous. In the second millennium before Messiah, a great king would not bind a similar king, a smaller king to himself by covenant. I said that wrong. Let me say it again correctly. In the second millennium, I can't remember what number I said. Amen. Thank you, Maritza. Thank you, dear. No, my story isn't finished. Amen. He didn't say heck, but all right. We try to keep it clean here, my brother. Or sister. I don't know. In the second millennium before Messiah, a great king, they would bind a smaller king to themselves through covenant. Good morning, Miss Colleen. Y'all pray for Miss Colleen. She's not feeling super great. Look, those treaties, they followed a pattern everybody knew. The Hittite version is one, is the one scholars point to most. The great king names himself. He recounts the good he's done for the weaker party, and then he lays out the terms. And he closes with two lists. A short list of blessings for loyalty and a long, graphic list of curses for betrayal. Leviticus 26 is built on that exact frame. So is Deuteronomy 28, by the way. When Israel heard the blessings stack up and the curses roll in wave after wave, they weren't confused. They knew this form. They knew this form the way you know the sound of a contract being read out loud. They knew it. Oh, they knew what was coming. Knew what was coming. But hold on to one feature because everything turns on it. The pagan treaties ended with the curses. Break faith, and here's your ruin. And the document stops. No paragraph tells the traitor how to come home. Wait a second.

I think we understand. Or do we not? Amen, Maritza. My favorite book of the Bible, amen. You gotta hear this. Pagan treaties ended with the curses. If you break faith, ruin comes to you. And then the document stops. Not a single paragraph tells the traitor, the violator, how to come home. Not a single one. The great king had no interest in that. Zero. He wanted him afraid. He wanted the person who questioned things afraid. He wanted the traitor afraid. He wanted the one that wasn't loyal all the way to death, afraid. Remember that. So let's walk it. Why not? We're walking the story of God, and this is part of it. The blessings come first, of course. Rain in its season, land that yields, bread to the full. You lie down and no one makes you afraid. And then the summit, verse 11, God says, I will make my dwelling among you, and my soul shall not abore you. And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people. Now watch the language. Watch the language. Because the translation just made a decision for you. And you didn't know there was a decision to be made, but it made a decision. Don't be mad. Don't be mad at whatever Bible you tote. Don't be mad at them. Don't be mad at them. Don't be mad if you've got one that's 50 years old. Don't be mad if you got the one the pastors told you. Hey, if you're coming to this church, this is the one you got to read. And then they read from it. If the Sunday school teacher said, hey, this is the only one you're going to carry, because this is the good one. This is the right one. This is the only one you can rely upon. Okay, don't be mad at them. They didn't know. They didn't know about how the how the translation process worked. They didn't speak the language, and that's okay. I want you to watch the language. Because the translation team or person, they looked into this point and they said, This is what I want them to believe about this. The word behind my dwelling is mishkani. In Hebrew, it's mishkani. It's from Mishkan, tabernacle. God isn't promising real estate, He's promising to pitch his tent in the middle of yours, and I will walk among you. That is Vhith Telaki. Vhith Telaki. The same rare form from the garden. Ooh. Remember that garden, that Garden of Eden? Hey, it wasn't that far, it wasn't that far back. We're only on day 106. By the way, you can listen to all these. Maybe some of you don't remember from the garden. You know, when God walked with man in the cool of the day, the blessing at the top of this chapter isn't prosperity. It's presence. It's Eden coming back. Let's read it again, folks, because we rolled over that fast, just like we always do. I will make, this is God speaking. I will make my dwelling among you, and my soul shall not abhor you, and I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people. The blessing isn't prosperity. He's saying, I'm gonna be with you, I'm present with you. It is the Garden of Eden returning. Then the chapter turns. And yeah, it's a bummer. In a way, because we don't want to leave the garden. We like the garden. We like to imagine the garden. Listen, if you want to imagine the garden, I can promise you something in a couple of minutes here. I can give you a promise that God Himself stands behind, and you will see that garden, and you will live that garden in eternity. Chapter turns. The curses come in five escalating waves, each one introduced with the same chilling phrase. Then I will discipline you again sevenfold for your sins. Sevenfold, then again, then again, through disease, drought, wild animals, swords, siege, and all lands in exile. And there's a word buried in these cycles that most English Bibles smooth over. Once you've read it in the Hebrew, it will shake you to your soul. Five times God says the people walk toward him with idi. Your Bible probably says contrary. But we're in Leviticus, the last chapter of Leviticus. So your Bible probably says contrary. But that flat word hides a fight in the Hebrew. Many read Kitty from the root meaning chance happening. It's a chance happening. It just happened. It's an accident. But to walk with Kitty is to treat God as incidental. To live as though outcomes are just random, and he isn't really a factor. It isn't that Israel raised a fist. It's that Israel shrugged. And here's the terrifying answer. God says that I will walk contrary to you. Two. The same word handed back. He doesn't say I will hate you. He says I'll treat you the way you've treated me. You want to live as if it as if I'm not a factor. Mess around and find out. I'll let you find out what that's like. The waves crest in exile. And verse 34 says something haunting. The instrument you hear playing right now is the Diduke. It's the oldest instrument in the world it is thought to be. Oldest woodwind. Originally made from reeds. It's 4,000 plus years old. Why did I choose this? It's a haunting. Haunting instrument. And verse 34 says something even more haunting. Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbath. The rest years they never gave it. The land collects while they're gone. Second Chronicles 36, and we'll get to it and we'll expand it when it's time to get there. It expands exactly what happened. Seventy years. Seven zero seventy. Seventy years in Babylon, paying back the Sabbaths, the land was owed. The accounting from yesterday's chapter come due. And then verse forty. After all of it, after five rounds of sevenfold discipline, after exile, if they confess their iniquity, if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled, then I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham. And I will remember the land three times, Zakar. I will remember. I will remember. I will remember as if once wasn't enough for us to believe it. And then verse 44, and hear this one slow. Hear it, hear it. Whatever's distracting you in this moment, shrug it away and focus on this. It ain't about me. It ain't about me. Come on, folks. It's about the word of God. We're walking the story of God through his word that he gave us, and we're doing it accurately. Are you ready? Are you focused? Are you listening? Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not spurn them, neither will I abhor them, so as to destroy them utterly and break my covenant with them. For I am the Lord their God. Undoubtedly, you can't conclude anything other than this is a great book. Vows, valuations, prices, dedicate a house, a field, an animal, a person, and here's the assessed value. But one line runs through all of it. Read that right after chapter 26, and it stops being an appendix. The book just that it just described. Exile ends with a chapter about buying things back. Everything in it has a redemption price. Leviticus doesn't end on the curse, it ends on the redemption schedule. Now stand next to those pagan treaties again. They ended at the curse. On purpose. This one doesn't. God takes the exact form every ancient person knew, the form that always dead-ended in ruin. And it does the thing no great king would ever do. No great king would ever do. No great king would ever do. He writes the way home into the bottom of the contract. And here's why that should land on you today. Some of you have been reading your own life as a Leviticus 26 chapter. You've counted the cycles. You can name the exile you're sitting in. And you did the natural thing. You assume the document ends where the curses end. You read down to your failure, and then you close the book. But you closed it one verse too early. You stopped at verse 39. The clause is verse 40. There's a way back written into the covenant, and it was put there before Israel ever broke faith. You are not too far gone for a God, the God who planned your road home before you ever walked away from it. So here's the here's the step for today. You can ignore it if you want to. Find the place in your own ledger where you wrote too far gone. I'm too far gone. I'm too far gone. Do you know how many times I have said that to myself? Miss Colleen. There's one person in this world, one. She received a word of God about me. She didn't know me from a soap stick. We met for about 10 seconds. 20 seconds maybe. She didn't know my life. She knew nothing about me. She went upstairs. She walked into the room where I was staying. She was cleaning the home of the people where I was staying. She walked into the room where I was staying. And she said, as plain as day, the Lord spoke to her. And she said, He's gonna think I'm crazy. He's just gonna think I'm crazy. I thought I was too far gone. And without God's grace, I am too far gone. So are you? She didn't know the struggle I was in. I said, I'm not, I am not. This is years ago. I am not gonna preach. I am unworthy to preach. I've made a wreck of my life. I've made a wreck of a bunch of lives. And she told me, because the Lord told her. He covers that. You're not too far gone. Hey, look, maybe it's a real journal. Maybe it's a name in your phone that you've refused to touch. You said, I'm not tapping that. You see it come up when you do it, sir. Oh, what's so-and-so's number? And you see that name pop up because it's similar. And you know you should call them. Maybe it's just a sentence you keep repeating about yourself. You just say it over and over. Hey, maybe that person, that number that's still in your phone, that contact that's still in your phone, maybe that contact is haunting you. Maybe it's haunting you. Because you say to yourself, self, I jack that all up. And if that person is ever asked about me, they will say I am jump. If somebody ever tells them I'm a Christian or a follower of the way, a believer. A worshiper. I can tell them a different story. Maybe it's just a sentence you keep repeating about yourself. That's what I was doing until Nancy Flanagan came into my life. Miss Colleen, amen. And God gave her more revelation. The very next week, she was back. We didn't have a conversation. She had no way of knowing. Miss Colleen was the only one who knew. She's the only one I told. And the next week, when she walked in my room, she was even bolder. And she said, You will preach to oceans of people. And I did. But God, today you keep reading past it. You just keep reading past it. So I don't uh take that one thing. You'd already filed it away as final and say it out loud. Say it out loud. Stop holding it in. Speak it out loud. I don't care if you're in a room alone. Say it out loud. You're never in a room alone. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and your God is in that room with you. Say it out loud. This is verse 39. There is a verse 40. Then do one concrete thing that only makes sense if verse 40 is true. And I know it's true. Send the text. Say the confession. Open the book you closed. Listen, you are never going to be over it and better. And you're never going to be able to see what God has for you. The life He has for you. Not easy. You'll notice I didn't say anything about easy. To the extent that you can make the amends. Say the apology. Send the text. Dial the number. Make the visit. Confess. Open the book you closed. Because here's here's what here's what this whole book has been driving at. The curses in Leviticus 26, they weren't poetry. They were real. And they were owed. And somebody had to absorb them. And Paul tells us too Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. For it is written, cursed is everyone who hanged on a tree. Every wave in that chapter, every sevenfold, Yeshua, Jesus Christ, stepped under all of it. That blessing at the top. The promise to make his dwelling among us, his Mishkan. Remember that word to walk again in the camp. John picks up that exact word, Yilchanan. John the revelation, he picks up that word, that exact word. The word became flesh and dwelt among us. Oh, you could never understand the New Testament fully and completely until you understand the old as it meant, because it is the complete and total foundation for everything that happened in the new. The Greek word here is tabernacled. He pitched his tent among us. The promise at the front of chapter 26 got a face and got a name and walked our streets. He took the curse at the end of the chapter, so you could have the blessing at the beginning of it. The treaty that ends in ruin also ends with a door. And Yeshua is the door. So back to your one word in the chat. Yes or no? You told me yes or no. Maybe you didn't. I only saw a few types in there. Maybe you only said yes or no in your mind. Because you were too afraid to type it. Now the text gets a vote. I asked you, yes or no, is your story finished? Do you think your story is finished? Yes or no? I was a I was a yes for decades. And then when Nancy Flanagan looked me right in the eye and told me what God told her, I became a no. My story's not finished. My story is far from finished because Yeshua Hamashiach stepped in front of my sin, my hurt, my habit, my hang up. He stepped in front of yours. Maybe you typed, maybe you typed no, but really and truly you think in your head and your heart, yes, my story's over. Oh no. No, no, no. Your story's not over. You place your faith in Christ. You turn your life over to him. Oh no, your story won't be over. It's just beginning. Look, if you said yes, let's be honest about one thing. One thing. There ain't nothing easy about this one thing. That yes was never in the contract. It was never in the document. It was never in the book. You added it. You did it. You wrote an ending that God didn't write. The document goes on past where you stopped reading because you said there will be no provision for me. The document goes on. And you stopped reading it, and you stopped understanding it. It goes on in your favor. The news is good today. So which are you gonna trust today? Your line that says too far gone. Just like that poor lady in the thumbnail there. I've been right there. I wasn't anywhere near as pretty as her, dressed as nice as her. But I'm telling you right now, I've been where she is, hunched over on a floor, saying, God, I have destroyed the life, the talent, the gifts that you've given me. And now I'm a mangled up mess. And I deserved it. This line, this document. Amen. Thank you, Miss Tammy. Thank you, Tube Continue 25. Which will you which which will you trust today? Said simple. Is it your line that says, I'm too far gone? Or his, his, the author and finisher of our faith. His that says, I will remember. I will remember. I will remember. Prayer isn't asking for an easy journey. And it ain't. Life in faith is not an easy journey. If you're looking for the easy way, oh no, you've chosen wrong if you chose that. In a minute, I'm going to give you a way to choose Christ, to choose to turn your life over to Him. But let's pray this first. Because prayer isn't asking for an easy journey, it's asking for a strong back. Heavenly Father, thank you that you never once wrote a document that dead ends in Roman. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You told us the truth about what walking away costs, and you didn't soften it one bit. And then on the same page, in the same breath, you wrote the way home for us. We confess that we've counted the cycles in our own lives and we've stopped reading before verse 40. We assumed you were just finished with us because we were finished with ourselves. Thank you that your son took every curse on the page, and that the tabernacle you promised to set among us came. And he walked. And he has a name. His name is Yeshua, your son, my Redeemer, my Savior, and my Lord. For everyone listening, Father, I pray, everyone who thinks the document ends with their failure, what they did, where their failure ended, where their failure said, This is your life. This is the deal. This is as far as you go. I pray that you open their eyes to verse 40. And I pray this in Yeshua, his name, his matchless holy name. Amen. Maybe that's you right now. I don't know. You just have to understand that he gave his life for you, for me, for our hurts, our habits, our hang-ups, our sins. And if we turn our life over to him, we have eternal life with him in heaven. Pray this with me. Don't put it off. You've been putting it on for far too long. Today's the day. Pray this with me. Yeshua, I need you. I believe you died for me and rose from the grave. I surrender my life to you today. Forgive me. Fill me. Leave me. I'm yours. In your heavenly name. Amen. If you prayed that just now, even quietly, don't keep it in the dark. This is the this is the seminal moment in your entire eternity. It's the most important moment you've ever lived. And it is eternal. If you prayed that and you meant it just now.
