Has Anyone EVER Blessed YOU?

You've been waiting your whole life. You'll just die with it. It isn't complicated, isn't it? It's someone looking at you. And saying out loud that they want good for you. That they're glad you exist. I'll say it, why not? Maybe your father never said it. Maybe your mother never said it. Maybe you spent forty years. And you were working for a word that never came. You wanted to hear it. So bad. And when it didn't come. Every week. Every accomplishment. He did what wounded people do. He decided. I just don't need it. Who needs it anyway? You need it. I need it. We were built to be blessed, made to have someone speak good over our lives out loud where you could hear it. And a lot of you, a lot of you never have. Today we're standing in the exact place where God taught his people how to do it. And I'll tell you why this one is personal for me. By the way, this is true word, faith for life with Dr. Sean SHAWN. Okay, so before we open the text, one question for the chat or the comments or whatever you want to call those things. Who's the last person who blessed you out loud? I mean, they looked at you and said they wanted good for you. Some of you have a name in your head already. Some of you can't think of one. I want you to hold on to your answer. Happy Friday. I'm gonna ask again. Who is the last person who blessed you out loud? Who looked at you and they said they wanted good for you. Some of you have a name, a face that's already popped into your head. But there's a fair number. Thank you, Robbie. He says, My Linda. There's a fair number of you. So here's the world these chapters live in. Ancient Near Eastern Israel is camped in the they're camped in the wilderness. They're arranged in a square, tribe by tribe, around one center. Actually, Miss Kathy Wright. Amen. The wilderness. We often forget that about Israel. We we forget they're in the wilderness. The world is young. I know. Says never do this, but I have to. Oh what the what the audio only audience is missing. By the way, we're on every single type of podcast platform you can imagine. So there's that. If that's your thing. She's right. Wilderness. Ancient Near Eastern wilderness. Arranged in a square, right in the middle, is the tabernacle where the living God has come down to dwell. I don't know if you're catching that. Holiness radiates out from the middle. And the closer you are, the more careful everything has to be. That's what the first hearers knew in their bones, and we forget. They lived with the holy God pitched in the middle of the camp. Not a distant deity across town. Present. Close. And that reframes everything here. Jealousy. A wrong against your neighbor. What it means to set yourself apart. All of it now happens in front of someone around Israel. A suspicious husband held nearly absolute power in his house. And trial by ordeal was normal, and it usually meant to kill. God's about to take that world and do something nobody else was doing. Chapter 5 orders the camp. The unclean go outside for a season, so the place where God dwells stays undefiled. We uncovered that in Leviticus. Remember? Then restitution with real arithmetic in it. Confess. Restore what you took. Add a fifth on top. Do you remember these things? We just went over it. Repentance. Repentance here isn't only sorrow. It's sorrow that writes a check. Then verses 11 through 31, and this one, this one's hard, so I won't skip it. A husband suspects his wife of adultery. No witnesses, no evidence, just a spirit of jealousy. He's just a jealous type because she's hot. She's brought to the priest who has her drink holy water mixed with dust from the tabernacle floor and the washed-off ink of the curses. Then God decides. Read it cold because that sounds barbaric, because it is. Put it next to the competition, the Code of Hammurabi, which is where we get all the laws of the world. That's how it originated. The Code of Hammurabi handles the same accusation with the river. They throw the woman in, and if she drowned, she was guilty. I've always said swimming lessons, start them early, save your life. That ordeal was built to kill her. Now look at Israel's cup. Water, floor, dust. From the floor. Ink. Nothing in it can harm anybody, really. We drink dirt all the time. The ink then was natural. The outcome rests entirely on God acting, not on whether a woman can swim, and it drags a private accusation out of a jealous man's clenched fist. And into the sanctuary in public before a priest. And if she's cleared, she walks out free. Her name is unstained. That isn't God endorsing a jealous man, it's God. He's building a fence around what jealous men do. Chapter 6 lifts the tone, the Nazarite vow. And catch verse 2. When either man or a woman makes a special vow, man or woman, man or woman. A voluntary, time-bound consecration open to anyone in Israel, not a tribe or a bloodline or a priesthood. You were born into. No. If you wanted to draw near for a season, the door was open. Three marks. Can't make the three today with my left hand up. Let's try it with the right. There you go. Three marks. Nothing from the vine. No razor on the head. And no going near a dead body. Not even for a parent. That last one is the rule God gave the high priest in Leviticus 21. Handed for a season to an ordinary farmer. When the vow ends, he shaves his head at the tabernacle door and burns the hair under the peas offering. No trophy. It burns. Now, verse 22. I don't want to slow it all the way down. Because the ESV, English Standard Version Bible, the Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. And if you're new, you'll hear that again. But let me explain this. Look at the architecture. Three, no, whatever. Three lines. And in the Hebrew, they grow. Three words, then five, then seven, widening as they go. Here's where their translation. Maybe I don't know which one you have because I haven't been invited into your home for things that I like to eat or a good sticky bun with lots of. Anyway, I don't want to go off track. But now I'm thinking of sticky buns. Anyway. I'm not making a judgment. I'm not making a judgment on anyone at any time for any reason. I'm just telling you, your translation people made a decision for you and they didn't tell you about it. That middle word, Yair, it comes from the Hebrew for light. Make his face light up toward you the way a face lights up when someone. Oh, you love someone so much. Oh. And when you see them, it can't help. But light up because you see the light of their face. If you have grandbabies, you know. If you know, you know. It's the same with our kids till they become teenagers. And then again when they're adults. Listen, I want you, I want you to watch this word. It's face. It's the middle line, and again in the last line, the same face. Twice the complete Jewish Bible. It keeps it as face both times, but the the ESV and the King James turn the second one into countenance. Oh, it's a final word for sure. But it hides it, it's the very same face. And it's turning toward you again. The Hebrew is climbing. His face lights up towards you, then lifts towards you. Nothing is turned away. And shalom. It isn't just the absence of conflict, it's wholeness, it's everything back in its place. The episode tomorrow will not start off as shalom. But it will certainly end as shalom. This piece I compose that you're hearing lightly in the background. It represents the ancient Near Eastern um the ancient Near Eastern Israel from its just raw beginnings through the middle of such conflict and just fighting against itself and then it's years in slavery. And then it's coming out of the slavery, and then into the light. The light of the issue. And then his crucifixion, and then the period after. And then the rebirth of Israel. And then October seventh. And then it's victory again. A country the size of New Jersey. Enemies all around them. Yet they not only survive, but they thrive. Israel is said to be the happiest, one of the happiest countries on the planet. So I want, listen, verse 27 unlocks this whole thing. So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them. Priests aren't wishing, they're not wishing for anything. They're not wishing. They're placing God's own name on people. And God says the blessing is his to deliver. He didn't ask the priest to hope for Israel. He asked them to put his name on them. And then he handled the entire rest of the story. And you know, this gives me chills. In a burial cave at Ketefanon. It's outside Jerusalem. Two tiny silver amulets were found. They were rolled tight, unrolled. These were the words inside. They date to the end of the first temple period, roughly the seventh century before Christ. It's the oldest piece of biblical text ever found, older than the Dead Sea Scrolls by centuries. It's the oldest surviving fragment of scripture on earth. And it's someone carrying this blessing into the grave. Why is this so personal? I close every episode with these words in Hebrew and in English. And I did that for a long time before I ever stood in the chapter where God gave them. Here's why I keep saying them. A lot of you have never been blessed by anyone, not once. Nobody ever looked at you and said, out loud, that they wanted good for you. Some of you had a father or a mother who never said it, and you've spent your whole life working for a sentence that was never coming. So every day, at the end of this, I speak over you. I speak over you the exact words God gave Aaron. Not mine. His. He does the blessing himself. And I say it tomorrow at the end of the episode. It's a tough episode. Saturday, September 5th, 7 p.m. I'm not getting you. When I say it at the end of that episode, hear what it is. It's God putting his name on Israel and Him putting His name on you. Because maybe no one ever, no one else ever has, maybe. I don't know your life. So here's what today I small enough to do before dark. Who have you never blessed? Yeah, we talked. We talked about who's never blessed you, but who have you never blessed? Somebody in your life has never once heard you say out loud that you wanted good for them. Maybe it's a child, maybe it's your parent. A brother you haven't spoken to, a sister you haven't spoken to in years. Some relative that's just for whatever reason. Maybe it's a friend. Maybe you were best friends. And then somebody said something, and then Maybe it's somebody who might come apart if you said it. They might they're starving so hard to hear it. You don't need a title. Aaron's sons got the words because Israel needed to hear them. And God attached his name to the saying. Say it to one person today. Out loud, not in a text, with your voice. This is where Yeshua walks straight into the chapter. Luke tells us that at the very end, he led them out to Bethany, lifted up his hands, and blessed them. And while he was blessing them, he was carried up from them. The last thing he did, the last thing he did on earth was lift his hands over his people and speak good over them. He didn't leave them instructions, he left them mid-blessing. The last posture anyone saw in him was hands raised, blessing the same people who had run from him just weeks before. Everything Aaron's blessing pointed at, Yeshua is. The face of God turned all the way toward you, lit up, lifted, refusing to look away. He went to a cross so the face would never turn from you again. I have for you today a challenge and a choice. So you have a choice today. You can keep waiting on people. They were never going to say it. And maybe they never will. Or you can receive the one God is already speaking over you, over your life, his name on your life, his face toward you, and then turn and put that blessing on somebody else. One keeps the wound open forever, and the other closes it and heals it. In you and in the next person down the line. My friends, prayer isn't asking for an easy journey. It's asking for a strong back. Father, Heavenly Father, thank you. Thank you for teaching your people how to bless. Thank you that you didn't leave us to invent those words. You gave them. You put your own name on them and you said the blessing would be yours to give. Father, thank you, thank you, thank you. For everyone listening who's never been blessed by anyone in their entire life, who grew up in a house where nobody ever said it to them, let these words land on them today like they were meant for them, because they were. Heavenly Father, Father God, Adonaiolin, make your face to shine upon them, lift up your countenance on them. Give them shalom, wholeness, everything back in its place, and make us people who speak blessing out loud instead of assuming the people we love already know. I pray this in the matchless name of Yeshua, my Redeemer, my Savior, and my King, and my friend. Amen. Maybe no one ever wanted good for you out loud. And somewhere in there, you decided God must feel the way everybody else seems to feel about you, distant. His face turned away. But I want you to read the middle line again. May he make his face shine upon you. That's how he looks at you. And his son, Yeshua Mashiach, Jesus Christ, went to a cross so it would stay that way. He'd always have his face on you. Shining. Lighting up. If you want him, tell him now. Don't put it off. Not another second in your life. Handle this right now. If you believe it, pray with me right now. Yeshua, I need you. Pray it. Yeshua, I need you. I believe you died for me. And you rose again from the grave. I surrender my life to you today. Forgive me of my sins, my hurts, my habits, and my hangups. Fill me. Lead me.
