Sunset's Got Nothin on You.
You were standin’ on the dock with your back to the west,
Hair in the wind, sundress and bare feet at rest.
The sky lit up in colors that’d make a painter cry,
But I couldn’t pull my eyes from your silhouette in the light.
You caught me starin’, smiled and said,
“Darlin’, how can you not look at that sky so red?”
I pulled you close and whispered true,
“Sunset’s got nothin’ on you.”
No brush of fire, no golden hue,
No twilight shade compares to you.
When the world slows down and the sky turns blue,
Baby, all I see is you.
Years will roll and skies will fade,
But girl, my heart will always say…
“Sunset’s got nothin’ on you.”
Front porch swing, rockin’ slow,
Kids in the yard and hearts aglow.
Your hands in mine, your eyes so kind,
Every day with you’s the best of my life.
And even now, as the silver creeps,
Through your hair and laugh lines deep,
I watch the sun drop like it used to do…
And say again, “Sunset’s got nothin’ on you.”
No mountain blaze or ocean view,
No painted dusk could outshine you.
When the world stands still and the stars peek through,
Darlin’, all I see is you.
Storms may come, and skies may change,
But girl, my love will still proclaim…
“Sunset’s got nothin’ on you.”
Now I’m old, and you’ve gone ahead,
Your laughter echoes in things you said.
The stone bears your name and your sweet, sweet face,
As the orange light pours on your resting place.
I lay down beside you, whisperin’ low,
“Wait for me, darlin’, I’m ready to go.”
One last breath, and what I knew…
The sunset still ain’t got nothin’ on you…
No heaven’s glow, no pearly hue,
No angel song outshines you.
As I cross that line to skies so new,
Forever, I’ll walk with you.
Hand in hand, in love made true…
’Cause sunset’s got nothin’ on you…
