What if the Spirit of Truth was never meant to replace the Torah but to write it on your heart? What if the Ruach HaKodesh was never given to isolate you but to bind you deeper into covenant community, into obedience, and into love? Many today have fallen into a dangerous misunderstanding—that the Spirit frees us from Torah, that obedience is legalism, or that community teaching is unnecessary. The Word of God reveals something very different.

The Spirit of Truth in Context

John 16:13 says:

However, when the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative but will say only what He hears. He will also announce to you the events of the future.” (CJB)

Yeshua was not speaking to isolated individuals in every generation, but to His disciples, His talmidim, who would become His apostles. The Spirit would guide them into truth, confirm His words, and reveal what was yet to come. Through them, the New Covenant Scriptures were written.

The Spirit does not abolish Torah. Instead, as Jeremiah 31:33 declares, He inscribes it on the heart of God’s people:

For this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says Adonai: I will put My Torah within them and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be My people.

Torah and Spirit: Partners, Not Enemies

Paul writes, “So the Torah is holy; that is, the commandment is holy, just, and good” (Romans 7:12, CJB). Yeshua Himself said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Torah or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17, CJB).

Fulfill does not mean abolish. It means to bring Torah to its fullest meaning. Yeshua did not discard God’s commands; He revealed their deepest intent. The Spirit empowers us to live out that intent—not by erasing Torah but by writing it on our hearts.

The Error of Isolation

Some believe that the Spirit forbids them from learning from teachers or shepherds, insisting only private revelation matters. But Ephesians 4:11–12 reminds us:

So He gave some people as emissaries, some as prophets, some as proclaimers of the Good News, and some as shepherds and teachers. Their task is to equip God’s people for the work of service that builds the Body of the Messiah.

To reject teachers and covenant community is to reject Messiah’s own gifts to His people. God has always called His people into community, not isolation.

Lawlessness and Love

In Matthew 7:21–23, Yeshua warns that many will call Him “Lord” but be rejected as workers of lawlessness (anomia, literally “without Torah”). He does not condemn obedience. He condemns those who reject His Father’s instructions.

Love and obedience are inseparable. Yeshua said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (John 14:15, CJB). John affirmed, “For this is what love for God is: to keep His commands. And His commands are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3, CJB).

Challenge and a Choice

Here is the challenge: Do not believe the false choice between Torah and Spirit. The Spirit never contradicts the Word of God. The Spirit confirms, empowers, and illuminates it.

Here is the choice: Will you live in lawlessness, rejecting the Father’s instructions, or will you embrace the fullness of Spirit and Torah together, lived out in love and covenant faithfulness?

Prayer of Salvation

If you are tired of running, and if you are ready to place your trust in Yeshua the Messiah right now, pray with me from your heart:“God, I know I’ve made mistakes. I’ve tried living life my own way, and I need Your forgiveness.  I believe Yeshua is the Messiah, Your Son. I believe He died for me, was buried, and came back to life on the third day so that I could be forgiven and made new.Your Word says that everyone who calls on Your Name will be saved. So right now, I’m calling on You.  Please forgive me, wash me clean, and give me a new start. Fill me with Your Spirit, change my heart from the inside out, and teach me how to live Your way.  From this day on, I choose to follow Yeshua as my Lord, my Savior, and my King.  Thank You for loving me, saving me, and giving me eternal life. In the Name of Yeshua, the King of Kings, Amen.”
