The inerrancy and trustworthiness of the Bible are not just theological concepts — they are the foundation of the Christian faith. If the Scriptures are not reliable, then neither are God’s promises. For centuries, critics have claimed the Bible has been changed, corrupted, or invented by men. Yet history, archaeology, manuscript evidence, and fulfilled prophecy tell a very different story. From the original writings given to the prophets and apostles, to the copies preserved by devoted scribes, the Bible has stood unbroken across millennia.

In this article — adapted from my True Word, Faith for LIFE! podcast — we will explore the theological, historical, and archaeological evidence for the inerrancy of the original Scriptures, drawing on the research of Dr. Skip Moen, Dr. Michael Heiser, Dr. Robert G. Witty, and Dr. Dennis D. Frey. You’ll see how the Ancient Near Eastern understanding of covenant shaped the transmission of God’s Word, how the Dead Sea Scrolls confirm its preservation, and how fulfilled prophecy proves its divine origin.

  • “If God cannot preserve His Word, then He cannot keep His promises. But He has — and every promise is unshakably yours.”
  • “The Dead Sea Scrolls didn’t rewrite the Bible — they proved it hadn’t been rewritten.”
  • “The Bible’s story is coherent because it comes from a single divine mind, not human editing.” – Michael S. Heiser
  • “Not one prophecy has failed in its appointed time.” – Robert G. Witty

1. What Inerrancy Really Means

Inerrancy applies to the original autographs — the Scriptures as given by God to the prophets and apostles under the inspiration of the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit). This does not mean every printed copy today is letter-perfect, but that what God gave in the beginning was without error in all it affirmed.

2. Hebrew Davar and Performative Speech

The Hebrew word davar means not only “word” but “event” or “act.” In Scripture, God’s words are reality-creating actions. As Dr. Michael Heiser explained, God’s speech is performative — it accomplishes what it declares (Isaiah 55:11).

3. Scribal Preservation

From the Torah scrolls safeguarded beside the Ark (Deut. 31:24–26), to the meticulous work of the Masoretes between the 6th and 10th centuries AD, the text of Scripture was preserved with extraordinary care.

  • Dead Sea Scrolls (250 BC–AD 70) — The Great Isaiah Scroll matches the Masoretic Text with remarkable accuracy despite 1,000 years between them.
  • Septuagint (LXX) — This Greek translation (3rd–2nd centuries BC) confirms the stability of the Hebrew text in the centuries before Yeshua.

4. Archaeology’s Witness

Archaeology continues to affirm the historical reality of the Bible:

  • Tel Dan Stele — Confirms the “House of David.”
  • Pilate Stone — Names the Roman governor who condemned Yeshua.
  • Hezekiah’s Tunnel Inscription — Matches the biblical record in 2 Kings 20:20.

5. Prophetic Unity

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible presents one coherent covenant plan:

  • Micah 5:2 — Messiah’s birth in Bethlehem.
  • Isaiah 53 — His suffering and atonement.
  • Psalm 22 — Crucifixion described centuries before Rome existed.

This unity is impossible without divine authorship.

6. Answering the Skeptics

Critics like Bart Ehrman argue that textual variants undermine the Bible’s reliability. But the vast majority are spelling or word order differences — none affect core doctrine. As Daniel Wallace notes, the New Testament is the best-attested work of ancient literature in existence.

7. The Legacy of Dr. Witty and Dr. Frey

Dr. Robert G. Witty — Founder of Luther Rice Seminary, pioneer of distance theological education, and author of The Bible: Fact or Fiction?, which applies historical, internal, and prophetic tests to confirm the Bible’s trustworthiness.
Dr. Dennis D. Frey — Founder of Master’s International University of Divinity, who often said, “If you lose your confidence in God’s Word, you lose your confidence in God Himself.”

Both men modeled a lifetime of confidence in the Scriptures — and passed that conviction to generations of leaders.

The evidence is overwhelming: the Bible is exactly what it claims to be — the inerrant, trustworthy Word of God. The question is not whether it is reliable, but whether you will trust it and live by it.
