America at War: The Truth We Can No Longer Ignore

America at War: The Truth We Can No Longer Ignore

America must awaken to the truth: we are at war. Platitudes cannot soften the reality, nor can denial erase it. As Ecclesiastes declares, “A time for war, and a time for peace” (Ecclesiastes 3:8). This is not a time for peace. This is the time when evil has declared its war upon us.

These vile enemies walk among us in greater numbers and in more hidden places than most Americans can even fathom. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy” (John 10:10), and that is exactly what we see in them. Make no mistake: they asked for this, and they will bear the weight of what they have unleashed.

Whoever pulled the trigger represents the spirit of them all. Charlie, towering in stature and greater still in heart, stood for all of us. He was a man of courage and conviction, and like David against Goliath, he was unashamed to stand in defense of God’s truth. We will not shrink back into the shadows. As the prophet Isaiah declared, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17).

Our only comfort is this: in the very instant his body fell, Charlie’s soul was lifted into the presence of the Lord he so faithfully served. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). That is his victory, though our hearts grieve.

We will not riot in the streets as the lawless do. We will not destroy as they destroy. But let the world understand: what restrained us before was civility, patience, and hope for their repentance. That restraint is gone, torn away by their own hands. They chose this path. “For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind” (Hosea 8:7).

Their tears will come. Their cries will be loud. But as for me, I have no more pity and no more patience for those who make themselves enemies of the people of God, whether foreign or domestic. “Hate evil, love good, and establish justice in the gate” (Amos 5:15). That is our calling now.

America at War: The Truth We Can No Longer Ignore

There are moments in history when polite words are not enough. This is one of those moments.
